Yes, I must agree that is a very clean underside for sure. Good to see it held up so well with no undercoating.....must be the beautiful California weather...

Great find.

John, what history do you get with these US cars? Can you trace where the car was originally sold and where it has spent it's life?

You generally don't get much history and I've still not gone through everything that came with this one. I assume you can check the history in the same way you can in the uk. It doesn't say number of previous owners on their title document though.

Spent most of the day cleaning the inside of my new toy...the yellow zed that is. Removed the tailgate weather seal in readiness for a new one and cleaned the whole interior. Its all in really good condition so put a new set of carpets in. I'll have to sort out another door card and cleanup the plastic trim around the back. I was going to swap the seats for a good spare set I have but then I realised the early cars had different seats. The passenger seat is in very good condition but the drivers base is split. May have to leave them for the time being. I'm going to leave the dash as is for the time being until I make up my mind what to do with the car. I still have load to do on it and the next on the list will be remove the AC and find a heater control panel and get it working.

I had a little play with the carbs and got them balanced before taking the car for a little drive. Sounds like a rear wheel bearing or driveshaft gone plus none of the dampers are working at all which makes for an interesting ride. This will all get sorted when I refurb all the suspension and brakes. It's going to be a few weeks before I'm at MOT and registration stage which is the main thing I'm aiming for.

Here's a few pics from the large selection I took today.

Thanks.

Got it running better with another set of plug leads, thanks Matt.

I'm hoping to take a run down the car wash in the morning for a good steam clean then start stripping all the suspension off.

Had a little clean up of the engine bay today. I'm going back this afternoon to go through the electrics and see what doesn't work.

Managed to coax all the electrics back too life. Initially nothing worked then the hazards started flashing and one indicator. A bit of spraying and rapid movement of the stalk and bingo, all working. Side light were ok then the headlights came on after leavening the switch on for 5 mins. I think the car just needs using and is sulking after not being loved for so long. Brake lights worked fine and the wipers even self park. Managed to even get a sprinkle of water out of the squerters. Just need to get the heater controls back together and the car will be complete again.

Funny how much things can change in a day. After driving it around I managed to convince myself I could and would keep the car so started planning what I was going to do to it. Then a trip to the hare pub meet this morning led the purchase of another car so this one will need to go. Although I could possibly keep both, I would be sailing too close to the wind so the yellow car is now on ebay. If you want it then get in quick before I change my mind.
