whats worth £10k

So I went to see a 260Z UK car not too long ago and it was quite rough around the edges but it definitely had potential (the car is rust free and runs quite nicely). The asking price was about £10,000, although I loved it, part of me thought it seemed a bit over priced. My question is what should £10,000 get me?

It should get you a nice 260z,wot people ask and wot they get for their cars is totaly diferent, that 260 left hooker that sold at auction the other week was well overpriced, makes some of our zeds worth a million dollars,is that a good or bad thing?i think the classic car market is making a comeback like the late 80's and 90's,one of my mates has 2 mk 1 escort twin cams, silly money,i think you will have to pay between k10 -k12 in the real world for a nice 260z

I think prices have gone up in the last year. Not enough cars for sale and too many buyer will always push prices up. Rust free uk example will command the highest price. Lhd rust free cars make great usable cars make the most sence for someone who want to use the car, although prices of these have gone up dramatically. Just look at eBay us to see how expensive they are now.

Personally I don't like the high prices as people are the less likely to use the cars. Having just spent a shed load of money on a bare shell and van load of bits I hope they don't go down in price.

I paid 10 for my 260 3 years ago and it was the only thing that came up worth considering at that price in the couple of years I was looking on and off.

Body and interior are great and "rust free" - I quotation that as none of them are truly rust free!!

Goes very well but smokes a tad so needs an engine rebuild pics below from last June ...

Wow, I like the size of your front drive, enough to park a S130 and Z32 alongside the S30.

Looks like the old owner got carried away painting the block and decided fuel pump could do with some colour.

Nice looking car there.

I don't think now days you'll find anything really decent s30 wise for 10k. It might be even fair to say that 10k would be at the lower end of the middle range of cars.

Is that a factory Nissan colour by any chance? It really works well on the cars lines in my opinion. Colour looks quite similar to Darren's RB26 s30. Great choice :)

Thank you - on a good day we had 5 cars on it!! Was a tad cramped though

Re the block paint - don't even!!!!! I'm amazed he missed the rocker cover given the fact that he got EVERYTHING including the back of the alternator (which I replaced due to paint damage).

Nice looking car there.

Thank you. Credit goes to PO who spent many years taking it to bare metal and welding in new floors etc.

It's actually what was a high end VW colour for the phaeton and R32 golf but these days it's on everything. Called shadow blue, code LD5Q or P6 depending on who you talk to. The original colour was a maroon red with the black bits of the wheels being gold. I have a CD of 300+ resto photos and I have to say, I prefer the current colour to the original.

Looks better condition than the one I saw but like you say it was 3 years ago you got it and prices have increased.

I was eyeing that up but the fact its set up as a rally car put me off a bit.

Does fourways engineering sell zed cars or do they just sell the parts and work on them? Tried the zfarm but they didnt have anything in the 10k area.

Can't see why it wouldn't worth £10k, that even seems cheap to me. I've seen 240Z's go for nearly £20k, why should a 260Z be worth so much less?

Rust Free and runs well is the main things. Really depends how rough it was around the edges.

Ali,

What size wheels and tyres are you running? Those look like 14 inch rims and I've been debating the height of the tyres I'm going to get for my 14" Phantoms.. Your tyre size looks perfect.

Nathan, the are just standard 195 / 70 / 14 Michelins.

Got 4 at ATS euromaster on a buy 3 for the price of 4 offer which brought them down to some thing like £65-70 a corner fitted.

NP Nathan. I know your question was in wheels and I'm talking tyres.

But, the PO had 205's on the rear and 70 profile, they looked great but rubbed the arches all the time.

Just a thought ...

I used the Michelins as I've liked them over 10 years with various cars and I find them very good on road noise and wet/dry handling. Also very predictable and progressive on the edge - but if I was buying again for the z I would consider these ...

They seem to have a better balance between wet / dry handling but will wear more quickly, so it depends on how many miles you plan to do.

This went for more than 10k

Sorry, bit off topic, how do they get the front indicator lights positioned there rather than the two either side of the number plate.... desperate to do that on mine!

Bought my 260z 3 years ago for about 10k... Was in good condition though and to be fair, i used it every day over winter for a good 6 months (was my only car at the time).

Unfortunately it is sitting in a garage at the moment but will be back looking mint soon!! :)

Well you need the American (or early UK) indicators and cut a hole in the front valence or get a fibreglass replica and cut holes in that to fit the lights.

However 260Zs never had them there so would you be happy with that?

The rally car here shows the 'opening' for the indicator:
