What Job do you do?

Started as a maintenence electrician, then electrical engineer for proctor and gamble, electrical engineer surveyor for Royal and Sun Alliance, opened a computer shop 7 years ago to do something I really enjoyed. Now closing it in 3 weeks but not really desided what to do next! See how things pan out. Been offered a contract looking after computer networks on a fleet of tankers, or there's the option to do some more work in Oman inspecting hazardous area electrical equipment for Shell.

I'm not saying it will work, but you now have someone to name-drop if you require any 'preferential' treatment. Just tell 'em you're a friend of Dale's up in 'sunny Newcastle!' :) (that goes for anyone by the way!!!!) :p

Wow Dale, I have an office behind your place in Charlotte Square!

Small world! :)

Although I will no doubt regret saying this, but I work for Virgin Media (ntl, Telewest, etc) and head up their Engineering Delivery team looking after all of those lovely cabinets and hundreds of thousands of miles of duct network in the UK and Ireland, plus dealing with the glorious amount of legislation and regulation from the local authorities and Government. I also head up the group that performs network upgrades where the network can't deliver all of the products in the portfolio and an IT group that supports and develops the network systems, GIS's, Noticing, Asset Management, Workflow Management, etc. Been working for the company for nearly 14 years and before that I dug ol's and banged nails into bits of wood;)

Part time job, you have to be kidding!

23 years in the power industry, based at Ironbridge a 1000 megawatt coal fired, we shift 400 tonnes of coal per hour with both units at full load, now that requires some serious digging:eek:
Time served as mechanical craftsman, done a 5 year stint as safety adviser, but returned to production as shift technnician.

Nige

Done it all, qualified for none!

Now I sit behind a desk,

It doesn't matter what you do, as long as you can afford to keep a Z running!!!

I work for a Reinsurance Brokers in London. Mainly Medical Malpractice but some Property Catastrophe covers for variety. Done it for twenty years now (yikes!).

Once I realised that I really should have been a designer or engineer I was already married, mortgaged and a Dad.

Used to write for PC ZONE mag as a games/mod reviewer in my spare time, and am toying with ideas for a novel. That'll be the day!

Work pays the bills. Z ownership is for the soul :)

Okay, been a while since any activity on this thread but I'll go for it nonetheless.

By day, I'm a mild mannered designer. I design for the print industry predominantly, but can also design websites, online magazines, actually, anything that needs a bit of flair. By night I fix XBox 360s for people with bugger all money.

Zeeman1972 - time to update your profile here.......;)

I quality control the earthworks (including bulldozers, diggers, dumpers etc, lime and cement treatment) for building platforms, small roads, large roads, dual-carriage ways, m-ways, sea, river and canal dikes, watse-disposal sites, bitumen and gravelling of small country roads, tarmacadam production and laying on all of the above, currently responsable for three tarmacadam production facilities at Nantes, Angers and Le Mans.

This also involves taking many samples, testing and producing feasability studies - I don't work for the state or local govt. but for Eiffage.

I cover Southern Brittany and the Pays de la Loire which means everywhere between La Rochelle, Lorient, Rennes, Nantes, Angers, Mayenne and Le Mans - 1,000+ miles a week.

If any of that helps you, apart from safe driving in France - let me know.
