What Job do you do?

Muck-Shifter and earthworks recycler. Done just about everything in construction management over the years. No paying sidelines according to my accountant and the taxman;)

Account Director for Computer Associates handling BP globally - ex IBM, all infrastructure software related. If you think of business applications as radiators in a house, I do all of the enabling plumbing and pipework technologies and all of the automated systems management stuff.

Would rather have done something to do with cars or guitars but those industries smell BS too quickly so I had to make do with IT. :D

Run my own company on the side doing recycling.

cool, I had to go to a (cough) Tech college then a Poly on block release:eek: five years....five whole years ......I wasnt as clever as you, which discipline did you plumb for and any particular area.

Well mine lasted four.. got a Masters at the end of it, it was a general engineering course so did most stuff from mechanical, electrical, civil, electronics.. Ended up doing the masters in semi-conductor stuff, modelling of electron and hole dynamics in order to design optical switching devices.. I even designed the optical to electrical interface for a cd-rom using a blue laser (in P Spice), in 1998 when the lasers were still unstable and way to expensive..

I just wish I had made the most of it whilst I was there, I would love to be doing that course now, at the time I was more interested in getting the work done as quickly as possible!

I had a choice of working for SGS Thompson (ST) or LogicaCMG, and chose IT, not sure was the right one, although lots of people lost their jobs at ST not too long ago.. Who do work for now Steve?

only joking....been visiting Richer for years:D

I'm not saying it will work, but you now have someone to name-drop if you require any 'preferential' treatment. Just tell 'em you're a friend of Dale's up in 'sunny Newcastle!' :) (that goes for anyone by the way!!!!) :p

I had a commie work for me who tried the whole union thing - I fired the lazy bastard. NO union wil EVER kick my teeth, I would shut my business down first

20 years in the foundry industry as engineering manager. The foundry produced 200 tonnes of iron castings a day. It went the way of all heavy industry in the U.K. after 120 years of activity on site.
Now I'm the mechanical engineer for the Environment Agency in the NW. I look after all mechanical engineering issues in the area. Mostly this involves flood defence pumping stations, one of which is the biggest of its type in europe.

Reading back, my reply comes across far more aggressively than it was meant to ......oooops

I forgot to mention the commie in question was my wife's uncle.

Moving swiftly on ...... we don't do politics here
