Hey Simon,
Any good with a Gorgar pinball machine? Mine has ceased to function, and have got another for spares. They are for sale too as I need the space now!

Hi Simon,
I am between Liverpool and Manchester, just off the M6.
The last Gorgar on ebay went for £600, mine has a new circuit board in recently. It now makes a low buzzing sound but nothing lights up, some kind of power failure. I swopped the transformer etc from the other machine, but still exactly the same!

Talking of pinball machines - any easy fix ideas for flipper failure on Creature from the Black Lagoon and gun locked out of operation on Dirty Harry? Any interesting exchanges / part exchanges on these two - I quite fancy a change? Also got Getaway (fitted with supercharger, like my cars!) - a real favourite and working perfectly - well, as perfectly as pinball machines ever seem to; it has its quirks, but you can live with them.

Hi Mike
Flipper failure....could be bad flipper coil, bad switch for flipper or bad flipper coil driver transistor. What happens when you run it through self test? does the flipper fire? you could check the coil resistance to see if has shorted inside somewhere which in turn will have killed the drive transistor. switch controls are probably opto switches on that game so its a little more complicated to test them.
Dirty harry gun lock out, I'd need to check the schematics. Again run self test and see what errors if any are reported.
A very nice collection of games! exchanges? Do you like early video

Lost enthusiasm for the Job, changed to carpet/ vinyl fitter (strangley) as pay better. Now do cars as my hobby.I miss the motor trade as it was great when we has the original team before it all went wrong.

cool, I had to go to a (cough) Tech college then a Poly on block release:eek: five years....five whole years ......I wasnt as clever as you, which discipline did you plumb for and any particular area.

You do realise that come the revolution, the world will be run by engineers and technicians.....

A Defender would be nice...never really got into any others.

I'll run some diagnostics on the machines when I get a moment - haven't done that for a while so can't remember any results. The "Creature" is failure of both flippers simultaneously, but I believe they both fire OK under test. This machine has been a pain since Day 1 - it had a hard life in Germany before it came to me and cost me a new display panel and several bits of plastic straight away. Really good when working well, but impossible to use enjoyably with even the smallest failure... However, probably the most valuable of the three machines I own!

I have a defender cocktail (tabletop) in parts and a stargate (defdender 2) in parts. A great game, bloody hard to play though. I could ask about for a defender upright for you as I know a few people that have a lot of games.

As for Creature, could be something simple....bad connector somewhere most likely. You could try removing all the cables, spraying with contact cleaner to see if that helps, also use an ear bud to clean the infra red optic's on the flipper pcb
