what events do you want

Prefer local events (South Coast) and track days. Any chance to meet fellow owners and look at their machines and have a chat.
Billing does nothing for me, becoming a bit too Max Power!!!

Ken...

no surprise here then I am with Ken on this one although I would attend billing if work and racing permits to give support to the club. It is good to have the old white Z back on the road so that we can go on some of the local picnic/pub runs.

I would also like to know what kind of events people would be willing to attend as everyone has different ideas as to what makes a good event. We are trying to get more people up here in Scotland interested in going out with their z's.

There is a show coming up at Ingliston (Edinburgh's NEC) and we have around 8 cars going. But we would like to do more events also

I would also like to know what members out there want. I know ken and Ben are both regulars at my South Central meets but I'd like to know how to get more members out in there cars. I would also like to do more track days e.g. Sparkford ,or maybe Motorsport event's Limited etc.

I also prefer days where there is action. The 2 Goodwood track days I've attended have been good but spoilt by queueing because of only 5 cars allowed on track at a time. I understand this was due to a misunderstanding with the noise regulations i.e. we went for the racing ( loud) option. The Castle Combe session that the club sponsored at 'Japfest' was again good but poorly attended due to misunderstandings ( licence requirements, comms etc ) I have started attending bookatrack events and these are very well organised but expensive, could the club sponsor a block booking of places on these? As far as displays are concerned I'm not too bothered about these but do enjoy Billing because I always learn something useful from members and their cars. It's also important to have an annual get together.

Not worth bothering with the SE group as i have tried to get them out in the past in their cars,no response, thats why i only pop in for an hour or so then go for a blast round the lanes then sometimes go to another car club gathering on the way home, would be a good idea if some of you northerners move down here least you know how to enjoy yourselfs.PS,Mike does a grand job keeping it together

Nothing much to add here but general Summer socials with bbqs are always nice. Nearish to me is Greatwood forrest which has a nice grass area and bbq stands, maybe we could have a get together there, its halfway between Kilve and Bridgwater in Somerset, or a similar thing nearer to the rest of you?

BTW while I'm here if MarkP is reading we ought to get cracking on the 'members map' of where people are so we can see Z hotspots etc and good places to hold events etc.

Local Groups are held together by enthusiastic and willing members, the regulars who make newbies feel welcome and a regular newsletter to goad the members into coming out once a month to give their cars a breath of fresh air. The S.E. Group meets at the Halfway House, A127 Herongate (two exits from the M25 J28) every first Sunday of each month (7th September next) for a simple "pub & grub" or "noggin & natter". All Z Club members are invited to attend and will always be given a warm welcome! Might even encourage Status to stay for longer than 10 minutes........

Getting members to go elsewhere is always a problem - some can't read a map or follow directions to save their lives (Tony), others just seem to be consumed by apathy. We do occasional local shows (like Matching Green) and attend the North Weald Drag Racing. Brands Hatch is sort of in our area, and 240Zs race there at least once a year.

Local groups are not all about showing off your car - it is the grass roots membership talking to one another and learning from each other that is important. You can even attend without a Z. The key is being there!

Hi,
Heart Of England Z Group usually have a full calender of events, driving tours and weekend aways each year.
We have just returned from a weekend camp at Brean in Somerset, where we had a convoy drive up to the Mendip hills and "wooky Hole".
Two 300ZXs ,two 280ZXs and a 260Z, certainly gave the Japanese coach tourists something to photograph apart from the scenery!
Personally I can't understand owners not wanting to air their cars and give them a good blast, even if only on the public highway and not the track.

ill teach tony to read a map, still think we should go for a blast now and then like we used to after a meet, thats wot Zeds are for

We do - Tony attaches himself to my rear bumper and follows my every move back to my place for coffee and cakes!

Seriously, organise a route and we'll see if we can persuade anybody to get off their apathetic a***s and do it!

So it sounds like more people would prefer events that dont involve taking they're Z. What about go-karting do people like that for a day out or tenpin bowling ? A night out?

how about some track days and some local meets
all the best sid

I would interested in most of the above, but what i would like to see is the ZClub hold more ZClub specific meets(with all Zs from all clubs welcome )say 4 times a year,in the south, midlands, north, and very north ,i dont mind doing 300mile round trips in a day, infact i love it,as long as its in my Z i know theres regional meets but nine times outa ten there so small and poorly attended, long way to go to talk to say two others Tony

When i was a member of Granada club,we would have 3 big meets a year,Billing,Drayton Manor(great for the kids)and Yorkshire area,as well as local meets

Hey , i`m new to this club and have not met anyone as yet , but like to see members and have a laugh with the cars so ,i`m up for pub meets , track days etc ....I recently saw a z-club car in Maidenhead , but it was parked up .It would have been great to be able to contact him , without leaving a piece of paper on his windsceen , cause i have know idea who is close to me with in the club.Perhaps if we knew that eg five members were close by we might be able to organise more small local meets and that in turn might lead to bigger meetings such as the events some of you talk about,,,its just a thought , any way whens the next meet?

This is what the concept of local groups is all about! The Z Club has had a network of local groups for donkey's years, but each area requires a committed organiser to keep things going. No organiser, no newsletter, no regular meetings and you might as well give your local area a humane injection right now!

Z members (or should that read Car Club members?) are born apathetic - it is a genetic trait. If no-one tells them what to do they just stay home and moan about having nowhere to go with their Z. We probably need a committee member to go round and knock on their door to remind them of the dates published in the magazine painstakingly produced for their information.

How many members who want some track action with their Z have turned up to our Santa Pod dates this year? Another round tomorrow. The weekend after we have a local group meeting in the S.E. area. This weekend, Steve Burns and Paul Wrangle are at the Back to Basics Weekend - at last count nine other members might be there! On the 14th Sept there is another Santa Pod Drag Round. On the 27th you can go and watch 240Zs rallying in Yorkshire. How many members have turned out for the 240Zs scrapping at the front of the field in HSCC this year - you just missed it again at Oulton Park last weekend! How many members who want track days (the Club can't afford dedicated Z only track days) followed the leads in the article last year from Paul Sampson?

I don't want your answers to these questions - I know already that only a bare handful of members do anything more active than complain about the lack of things to do with their Z. It's your loss - I've been out doing something Z related almost every week of the Spring / Summer season this year and I am at a S.E. meeting every month over the winter period come rain or shine and I haven't even had my Z at home most of this year! I for one, don't understand why members need to be asked what they want. Let them start using what is on offer first. Is it any wonder that the enthusiasm of your committee wanes from time to time?

couldn't put it better myself very true, if people can't attend events all ready organised why bother to give them something else to not turn up at

Now thats a reaction. Has anyone seen Mike Pheeny that fired up before. I agree with you entirely mike. It is not always possible to attend as much as we would like to due to work, family and for us hillclimb commitments, but the meetings that we do get to are very good days out. Sad that even after a well thought out and presented rant and rave there will still be the apathy that rules. I am of the opinion now that instead of putting energy and time into encouraging others to come out in thier Z's( this is not aimed at the loyal followers and supporters) we are going to put that time and effort into enjoying ourselves and the company of those that do turn out. ben and dee
