Now then , lets clear this up :-DRAD RACING,(whats the point ) Lets stick to Production/std ,semi modified cars.Well with circuit racing usually you have anything from 5 - 15 lap races, at a club level so if your Drag start off the line is not good well , if you have a competative car and you know the quick way round a circuit, then you have time to make it up , 10-15 Minutes etc,,,,but with Drag racing the whole point is the start ,the traction ,(thats why there are special suspension set ups for just that reason to get the launch just right, not for getting burnouts if you want sticky hot tyres) and then head down the strip,,,, oh and you have only Seconds to get it right ,one of the skills needed is the launch, wheelspin looks good for the crowd , but useless for the traction you need to move forward quicker than the guy next to you (don`t for get the clock ticking).....Once you have launched from stage ,your off ,the gear changing now is crucial ,questions arise,You must know your peak torque of your engine at what RPM, so you change gear at that point to the next gear and so on,otherwise you loose time those precious seconds .Your car can have loads of BHP but if the BHP/torque curve goes off after 4500RPM whats the point in reving the nutts out of your engine past that, this is where engines can go BANG!!!!,,,,thats what you will here, you would be better to change gear back into the revs where the torque is because its the torque that you need to race with .Especially with small engined turbo cars,,,,scoobys are a good example very fast but only in a certain torque/rpm band once you have revved through that its gone! you must change gear at the right moment(rpm).....£1000,s are spent getting it right shift lights electronic /air shifters some get it wrong and engines blow, thats racing , circuit racing is no different,,,but when you do get it right ,,,off the line just as the green comes on (not amber like some go)easy not to much throttle a bit of wheels spin but you`ve got traction feed the power in ,and now its foot hard down through the revs ,changing gear,,, to the 1/4 mile tower and you look down as you ease off at your speed and as the andenalin is pumping ,it was a good run ...Thats Drag racing , you could do burn outs or use Nitrous , etc,but there just the things you do after you have caught the bug,,,,So as we were saying any motor sport can look/be borring so don`t watch it do it.Circuit racing is not cheap , even with track days ,but drag racing can be if you use your std car , it wont blow up unless you, over rev it, (or lack of maintenance) and all you need is you a helmet ,thats a good idea and your car and a bit of knowledge , like your spec sheet for the engine in your car(hand book specifacations etc and look for the peak torque at what RPM) and then go racing , and if you don`t come back with a grin on your face then try flower arranging.....This is One day , one small payment and you never know it just might be a very enjoyable different memory to look back on, or catch the bug !!!!
