What did you do to your Z this week?

After cleaning up the OHV valve cover and making it look really good, I bought a 2400 valve cover back from a mate who I sold it to several years ago.
I found it along with 2 others laying in the dirt and weeds at a Datsun hoarder's yard. Bought all three of them along with loads of other parts.
Several hours of scrubbing and cleaning and was able to fit it on this car. I think it looks nice and correct, very happy.

IMG_20180320_152420_077.jpg I finally took mine for an MOT on Tuesday and it a passed :) luckily living in Swansea has its plus points a friend works in the DVLA so had my reg back on Thursday, now i just need to get 500 miles on it to run in the engine :driving:IMG_20180320_152420_077.jpg

I’ve put my engine back in.

Putting the carbs back on with their individual heatshields was a real faff. I ended up gluing the washer thingies to the carbs before mounting them.
I hope they do their job well. Hopefully I’ll find out tomorrow.

Did you ever exorcise the returning marbles!?

No, I’ve still got the marbles, just when I’ve given it a sustained spanking. I think it must be a loose baffle in rear silencer. Thats about 4th on my list of things to sort!

My engines up and running again, and no knocking now. Hooray.

I also finally got round to using some proper silicone hose for my air inlet rather than brake ducting.
Cost a lot more but rather better!

Nice work JB! [emoji106]

How do you plan to run her in? A quarter mile at a time!? [emoji12] :p

Strictly speaking did nothing to the Z but buy more bits. And one for me! Was gonna make one but then found one for sale!

Yes and a strict 8500 rpm limit.
Actually, only new bits are main bearings and the oil pump drive gear, so doesn’t need running in.

Where’d you get that shirt Ali? I need a new work shirt.

Thanks Ali. Couldn’t get away with that engineer shirt at work. The engineers would mock.

Went for MOT today. "Failed on three things Sir, rear nearside position light insecure, rear nearside indicator insecure, rear nearside stop light insecure"
What - three rear lights loose? No...the sealant on the lens had given up (or not been the right stuff in the first place) and the lens was loose. I guess the piece of duck tape I had put on it gave the game away..oh well, lesson learned!

Stripped it down and now just waiting for my sealant to arrive. I'm going to use Sikalastomer 710 as I don't fancy putting my lights in the oven (can't seem to find any Morimoto butyl sealant in the UK anyway) unless somebody knows anything negative about the Sikaflex?
