Ironically enough, I remember sourcing a very rare book from Japan on behalf of the Z Club's "Archivist" some years ago.

At the time the book was out of print, and all attempts to locate and purchase a copy had failed - or so I was told.

I managed to get it ( direct from the publishers in Japan ), and sent it to the gentleman concerned - with a request to send the payment for the cost of the book to me by return. I didn't even add on the cost of postage from Japan to UK, or postage from my home to the 'archivist's' address.

Cue several months of chasing for a cheque. Very frustrating and disheartening. :(

E-Type is nice looking although the windscreen is too high and upright !

Re archive, then where is the list published of what is available in what magazine, eg Sept '85 issue of Classic and Sprotscar, article on the 2000GT and comaprison between Zs and Capris' ???

It appears that at the moment, one must ring up and say what one wants rather than able to peruse and choose !

To be useful, it should be up on the site and then people can email and request this or that article - raspberries back !

send russ an email and discuss as if he aint got enough to do or are you volunteering to help in the task - ooh, are you suggesting that I have administrator access to this site :)

I shall contact the Chairman and 'suggest' that the archivist put this info up on the site !

"youre good looking too but perfection always has flaws" - thanks darling, that's why I let you win at karting last time !

"i'm flawless so therefore i'm not perfect haha" - well, there aint a floorless Z that's perfect :) !

I believe that there were two, one (white) owned by Ivan Dutton (ex Bugatti restorer) who nows competes in an (Amstrong Siddley?) Silver Lady and one (red) by Lord ???? who lives in Norfolk which was used for a UK classic car mag article !
Lord whatever, I believe sold his car and it returned to Japan.
Twiggys' car - a gold one, that which she was hired to accompany on the 1967 October Tokyo Motor Show Toyota stand was imported into the UK then found itself in the US in the early '80s !

Officially into Europe were sold 11 in Belgium, 5 in France, 3 in Switzerland, 2 in Portugal and 1 in Denmark !

" I believe that there were two, one (white) owned by Ivan Dutton (ex Bugatti restorer) who nows competes in an (Amstrong Siddley?) Silver Lady"

Sorry, that should read an ALVIS GREY LADY !

I can't see what this relates too either unless you forgot some more text relevant to the thread - Toyota 2000GT !

If you need all that to win, I'll give you the cup before we begin :)

There was one French importer of Toyotas who between 1969 and 1971 brought 'em in and sold 'em - the price was 42500 Francs, compared with these prices - Triumph TR5 - 18900, GT6 - 17000 and an Alpine 1600 - 26700 !
There are apparently 5 still on French soil but one of these (a red one, LHD, used in an article in Auto Passion, chassis no. MF10L 1203, is suspected to have gone to live in Switzerland - a story of a family dispute over the car clouds its' history ! The family involved was/still is a Toyota dealer !

ive owned some of these diecast since i was a boy

Sean,
I photographed 1203 in the pits at last year's Goodwood Revival meeting. See below.

One of the Shelby American team cars was also a guest at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2004. See below.

1203 - still owned by Jean-Pierre Degenève in dept 74 ?

Interesting to note the (under front bumper) indicator shapes :)

Whose was the white one and chassis no (Dave Jordan ?) ?

Top road speed - 128 (132 in modded US road car and Toyotas figure of 133
Top speed ever - ? No record of speeds attained during SCCA racing (Shelby 250 bhp powered cars) and the endurance tests

But it was endurance speeds that Toyota chased after (and got) :

72 hrs at an average of 206.02 km/h
15000 miles at an average of 206.04 km/h
10000 miles at an average of 206.18 km/h

Interesting note, in the US whilst the 2000GT was on sale it compared thus against the 911

Toyota list price - 6750$
bhp - 150
weight - 2480 lbs
1/4 mile - 16.6
(Toyota figures - 1/4 mile in 15.9)

911 7000$
bhp - 180
weight - 2375 lbs
1/4 mile - 15.7

E-Type - 6000$
(err, fill in the blanks :)

Soon to come, Datsun 240Z - 3601$
bhp - 151
weight - 2330 lbs
1/4 mile - 16.1
Source, Car and Driver 1970

Are you sure you were there Count ? Prove it :)

Thanks for that - great cars and I've never seen one in the flesh - still gotta save up for that cultur

oops - cultural tour of Japans' motoring industry you're gonna organise in a couple of years time !

The White 2000Gt featured in classic cars in Nov 04.

Apparantly this was one of 3 prepared by Carroll Shelby. 2 were raced, the pictured white one was chassis no. MF10 -10001 - the first production 2000gt, and was used as a spare for the 1968 SCCA racing series.

According to the article it produced 230bhp with a performance of 140mph , 0-60 in 6 secs.

The Toyota team took 4 wins and eight second places with the two cars finishing 3rd and fourth in the series (Dave Jordan 4th.)

The article states that Peter Brock had signed the deal to run the 2000gt racing team, which was taken over by Shelby.(Brock moving on to 2000 roadsters then 240z's)

The 'classic cars' value on this car is £700,000 !

That's when fitted with Webers, as the car is today. For racing in the SCCA it had to use Mikuni-Solex which limited power to 200bhp.
