OH dear to much looking at your dollies in their xmas getups is effecting your eyesight
or old age is effecting your memory :p

No I wasn't there and yes you took the photo and but don't seem to be able to recognise or remember who is in your photos:rolleyes:

Just for you the lady in the black dress and sandals is Karen and the guy in the white shirt just behind her is Richard Wardle and to my eyes is not blurred at all maybe you need to visit specsavers:confused:

I will admit I do not recognise the arm on the left of the photo and the two partly hidden by the bonnet but would guess that the fair haired partial head next to Gill and Mark may be Richard Smith

I'm new to forums, so if I've got this wrong please everybody disseminate this message. I am the guy who has been working with Spike for the past (ulp) seven years on this book - the delay is mostly due to prevarication and general life hassles on my part. We are, however, very close to publishing (ourselves because most mainstream companies are not interested). So if anyone wants to throw in their opinion, the next couple of weeks is the time. I would like to hear from you.

My numbers are below, but please respect that I have a young daughter, and tend to turn off the landline after 8pm. Email is best. Memories, opinions, good or bad, all welcome.

Best regards

Paul Hardiman

I should of course have added: hardly_avo@yahoo.co.uk

I'm the geezer doing the book, sorry it's taking so long - not Spike's fault, all mine (though he keeps adding bits). So if anyone has a memory of or opinion on Spike and his doings, I'd like to know. But please not after 8pm as I have a young daughter who needs her sleep. Email is best - hardly_avo@yahoo.co.uk

Best regards

Spike

Sorry I'm not very good at these forums, but:

If you want to put the record straight

If you have a grievance with Spike

If you have any memories, amusing or otherwise

Or you just want to tell me something

I want to hear it all

Spike and I are very close on this book now. The prevarication is all mine. The only stuff I don't want to hear about is anything that could get anybody in jail. Which, of course, is impossible.

With best regards

Paul Hardiman

Nice to read the comments on Sam, and that people appreciate the fact that we left the dents in the bodyshell and did not fill the in. Nor did we come across or have to patch up any previous repairs which would have been a good indication of accident damage. Invaluable when it comes to later delving into history.....

As an owner who has been "accused" of not using the car enough has anyone any suggestions as to what they would do with Sam if they had it? I have thought of taking the flares off, changing the spring rates and entering into competitive classic road events. Even putting it back to being a classic rally car --waste of time putting it back to works spec. There is talk of a new classic modsports series but so far I haven't seen any entry forms. And then there are track days and local sprints, which are quite good fun here in Cornwall but some of the "circuits" have as many more holes as tarmac.

Nick Howell.

Paul, you bought one of my dad's booklets - did you enjoy it?

Nick - I am shocked by what you say, you MUST leave Big Sam as it is. Bring it to a trackday with me (and other Z owners) and drive it (with caution) to give it an airing. Call me on 01455 213284 any day. I also have an idea where it could be used in anger (are you willing to risk it?).

If nothing else please bring the car along to Castle Combe in May (Japfest) and let all us Z enthusiasts and also young Subaru/Evo owners see a real classic Jap car.

Thanks Rob, too kind! And what is the risky, "in anger", offer? Castle Coombe could be an idea though; long time since I raced there. In the works Healey if I remember. My nearest proper race circuit and only 190 miles away!

Of course if I am getting too old/staid/over the hill/kack'd for this sort of thing, he says dipping biscuit in cocoa, selling/part exchanging could be another option...

Looks like I'll get lynched anyway if alter it!

Well we had one guy sprinting (and still beating some of the young whippersnappers ) well into his eighties...........

There is an event coming up that you might be interested in will PM you
