Restoration 240z

Mike you are making a brilliant job of this resto. I've just had a look back at your early pics and they are all the justification you need for doing this. For anyone looking to buy one of these cars it would be a good Thread to study.

Not only will it look so good when it's done but to you it will feel like a different car.

Rob thanks for the compliment it's much appreciated. I am unable to take credit for the bodywork but the Guys that have done the work have done a Stirling job.

The shell is completely painted so all going well it should be back in the garage by the weekend. Then the real hard work begins putting it back together.

Unfortunately no pictures of the latest work as had a busy Sat doing other things. The next update will probably be when its back home.

So ok its been a while since I did an update. The car came home as predicted about a week after my last post. I have been doing solid work on it but to be honest once I post the pictures it does not seem like much. Quite a bit faffing with wiring getting the front to rear loom back in and gradually building things up. Kind of no rush but I want to crack on. So anyway Pictures.

Take lots of pics so I can get you a bottle of your tipple in exchange for when I have to do the same :)

Tell you what Jason it's been a bit of a learning process. Despite taking pictures as I dismantled it there have still been times I have had to scratch my premature bald head over. Putting the hand break mechanism on was one of them. The little spring in the pictures on the equaliser is in the wrong place, it's now in the the right place but took agies to find somewhere to get conformation. Also someone at sometime had added a bit on the adjuster. For all intense and purposes it looked like it should be there but on. After a little more head scratching I came to the conclusion that the little bit of hex bar behind the adjuster nut and lock nut was to give more adjustment because of stretch in the cable.

I had always intended to put an electric fuel pump on. I had in the past figured out that the green spare wire by the fuel tank sender unit was the feed for the pump. So I got a bracket from Z Farm with the the intention on fitting during the resto. When I scraped off the **** on the rails I found the holes for the bracket so all well and good. After putting the moustache bar back on I realised that as I had upgraded to the R200 diff it was now in the way for the fuel pump bracket. But after a bit of thought and some SS tube for spacers as you can see it all fits quite neatly. But all this is thinking time which slows things down.

As for a bottle of Booze in the offing if you require helping out I,m your man!

finally got round to have a look and was very impressed all round ,your making a cracking job of it
Can't wait to see it on the road mate

In general its been a good weekend. Had an issue with sand blasting media filling some internal threads which almost buggered things up, serious lesson learned I can assure you. Good to see it coming back together. The inevitable loss of small items which has bugged me slightly because I only had them recently, will keep looking must be somewhere.

I've seen your 'helper' on previous pics.

I like to do the work myself but have help when a 2 man job and also have someone to curse when things get awkward.

I'm not good at delegation.

Your car is looking superb, don't be tempted to rush it to finish it. It'll be a long time finished and you'll be able to enjoy it knowing everything went back well.

Mike fantastic timing of your rebuild your just I front of me so now I can get some close up assembly pictures, like the idea of the cling film wrap that should keep it fresh  nice idea of the trolly and jack and good to see your son with the torque wrench

dedication there you two

Ok time for an update.

Been making steady progress as you will see in the pictures. Installing the rear hatch weather-strip rubbers took bets part of a weekend interspersed with Le Mans 24. The rest has been done over this week. In fact the wing went on this afternoon, what a pig!

Interesting to see how different builds are done differently

Mike are you ok about fitting the wings without the doors and inspection flaps

I did comment on the shrink wrap in an earlier post what's it for ? protection ?

since it been painted recently I thought you shouldn't cover up new paint so as to let the solvents out

Cracking job being done there

Hi Terry,

Unfortunately I'm no expert in fact I haven't got a clue about fitting panels on cars. I have to rely on the fact that the door wings and inspection flaps were trail fitted before spraying. Now that's not to say there won't be any problems as I have experienced some already. I can only fit one thing at a time and I considered the wing would be the best thing to start with. I am more worried about getting the Vinyl interia fitted to be honest ie head lining and the such than anything else. Everything is learning experience and I'm sure I will make mistakes.

As for the cling film yes it was put on for protection mainly while I was messing with the rear suspension and to be honest I was going to take it off for the time being.

Mike
