Project Candy Begins (rb25det 240z)

All coming along really well, about to embark on my own RB swap so i'll be keeping a close eye!

How come you went for the CD09 gearbox over the standard manual RB25 RWD box?

It's a stronger and more modern gearbox. Good for a lot of torque where the 5speed boxes from the skylines aren't up to much. Easy to break over standard power levels. I also wanted a 6 speed.

There's currently 3 of us building rb datsuns. Robbie J and LiamR.

If you need a hand with anything or struggling on part choice, ask away. I've done a tonne of research on various things.

I'm not building anything yet haha!

Actually, spoke to my mate and he's going to start the teardown soon because my wedding has now been postponed by a year! So I've given him the thumbs up.

Can't wait to see what horrors are uncovered :(

I think the important word was yet [emoji1787] plenty of time to plan the work through and spend more money on rb parts.

Looks like you now have a definitive deadline too!

Yeah that's true... as long as I have all the parts its doable... just depends on the chassis.

I could probably get the RB in and running within a weekend if I was there, but obv got to do the strip down and RHD conversion too

Skyline gearboxes where treated as disposable items very few good ones around

Looking forward to your build thread ;-)

Sorry to hijack your thread Wally!

Ah great news and thanks very much for the offer of help, i'm sure i'll be in touch and can help in all the engineering that we're going to be doing!

I too looked at the CDO09 but a friend of mine (funnily enough rushingphil's son) has put one into one of his projects and said that first gear is so short that it takes away any benefits of it being a 6 speed. Plus it seems like a much more expensive route to go than the RB25 box?

I have heard very simular about the first gear being short. Hopefully can counteract that a little with a carefully chosen diff ratio. Unfortunately won't know until it's fitted.

likewise a I have tall diff to counter this
