Oulton Park Gold Cup Aug 2013

Hi Rob looks like the main race the Guards torphy is on the sunday, but a lot of the other races are on the Saturady loks like you will have to go both days!
I shall be there on the Sunday and maybe a little while on The Monday morning.
Pretty daft having racing on a Monday if you ask me!!

Andrew, what are you on?

Sat is Qualifying for many races, Sun and Mon Racedays. Monday is a Bank Holiday and so a good attraction for Joe Public. I hope to be there Sun and Mon.

Sorry Rob
I meant Sunday, not holiday up here in Scotland and the kids are back to school as well. But will to take the lad out of school for a day.

Might be of interest to add that our friend Dave Jarman ( of DJ Road & Race fame for the newbies ) is Racing his BTCC Primera in the Super Touring Car Races.

Yep, see post 4 ;)

Dave's being doing very well so far too.

Duncan will you be there in your rally car again?

Hi Rob thanks for putting up the info.
Isee my local boy John Clelland will be out bashing the bodywork!!:)

Here is a useless fact - John Clelland was born on the same day as me 61 years ago.

DJ had better give him a wide birth or have track insurance ;)

I used to live 200yards away from his garage and as a young lad remember watching him start up his race prepared Ascona and wheel spin it around the yard!!
He used to write off quite a few cars on the lacal roads around here, I wonder if it was a bit of unofficial practice!!:)

I have got my tickets today, Ta Steve!!

Once again this turned out to be a great event and the weather was superb.

I met a few new people too and saw Ahmed's Z31 for the first time, it's quite a 'looker'.

Charles Barter gave his usual first class performance and finished 3rd behind a Europa and his son's TVR.

Dave Jarman did well finishing 7th after a difficult qualifying session and then 5th in the second race.

Thanks Steve (Kemp) for arranging this event and well done to Andrew for coming all the way from Scotland.

was a great event as the Gold cup always is
Nice to see Glen Valentine there as have not seen him in years
Still looks almost the same but with maybe a bit more flesh on the bones
Also thanks to Paul Wrangle for not only travelling up from Tunbridge Wells but also diverting of route to my house to pick me up adding even more miles to the 235 mile direct distance

Hi Steve

Thanks from me also. Great day on Sunday. It's my favourite event of the year (and closest to home which helps). Unfortunately I just had too much to do at home on Monday so was unable to make it for a second day.

Good to meet some old and new faces and excellent displays from the car clubs.
Roll on next year's event.

Second all of the above! My son and I had a great time, fabulous weather, and nice to see some new faces. A good turnout of S30s and the other cars on display were of a very high standard.
It would be nice if next year we could all meet up and then enter in a convoy?
One of the highlights for me was being able to sit behind JK's 260 samuri for 80miles down the M6 at speed, nice to see a beautiful car being used.:D (better get that speedo checked JK):D

My car was running sweet got 340miles out of one tank I reckon about 34mpg.
God bless SU's:rofl:

Great carbs, but in your case the very high gearing (3.54:1 ?) on such a run must help. Having said that though your car must be in pretty good shape and from what you were saying speeds were reasonable too.

Yes the overdrive 5th seems to do wonders on Motorways, 60mph at 2000 revs, but is happier at 3000 revs at an idicated 90mph on the speedo, 85 on the sat nav.
Hopefully with the 3.7 diff that will bring it back down to a more relaxed 80mph on the speedo.:D

Thanks Andy, the M6 would have been even faster though had I not had to wait for some guy in a Limo to keep catching up behind me... ;) ;)

That fuel economy is really good, I worked out mine and it's was closer to 20 mpg this weekend (we did cane it back up the M6 home though :D :driving:

Great weekend!!
