new wheels

Spyro, read back through the post I think it is mentioned that you leave the old roof in place and glue on top.

Thereby saving weight

Yes because the old roof skin (which is left in place) has a dirty great hole in the middle where a piece of glass and framework was, the piece of glass/Webasto weighes approx 10 - 15 Lbs, take that out, throw it away and bond on CF skin, hey presto roof is once again intact plus you've made a weight saving --- come on guys it isnt rocket science. I could understand the sceptiscism if it was untried but mines been on for over a year now and has been tested to a reliable 140 mph.

One question about the CF roofs... how are they for safety?

if one cuts out the old roof, surely it needs some reinforcement.
You're not taking out any structural material such as side pillars, rear lateral member and front screen member only a bit of tin which wasnt there in the first place cos some pillock had fitted a piece of glass or vinyl

Think "skin"

Back on the subject of my wheels...from a company called superlite here in the uk.
Here are some facts
wheels were not made to dimensions I asked for.
all 4 offsets were different
I was told rims were being imported from Germany and ended up with common size outer rims..not imported special size.
Paint finish was very poor.
inserts were all loose from the factory.

Aftre complaining I was told a new set would be made, I cancelled the other 50% payment until a new set were made.

5 weeks later I called and the guy told me he wasn't going to make them and that the director would chase me for the remianing 50%..I asked for the directors number as I had a lot to say to him!! 10 minutes later I had a call telling me they would be made and I would get another call the next day confirming this.

5 weeks on I called as I had heard nothing, "oh we will callyou when they are ready" er yeah right, so I wait another 4 weeks and give up.

I have been more that reasonable and all I got was ...nothing.

So I called the VCA and they were very interested in a the fact that my wheels had no Safety markings....now things will probably get a little messy, can't say I didn't give hima fair chance to put things right.

I'm not telling anyone here not to buy from superlite, just what to expect if you do.

For £1,400 you would expect quality.

Yeh same as what Tony said, I always thought of them as being very reputable.

Always buy on your credit card, easy way to get your money back then!

Shame on Superlight!

Yeah, well I sent them an email telleing themm I had caled the VCA,on my way to work I get a phone call from guess who?
I answered to a "I'm not happy about this" to which I replied "well that makes two of us then"

I then got the usual "I gave you my word and when I give my word I mean it"

I said "Oh like the last time you gave me your word and then when I called 5 weeks later you told me you weren't going to make them" :)

"errrrrrrrr!"

anyway to cut a long story short , they should be ready in 2 days now!

will post some pics if they are.

Still not acceptable though is it, they mess you about until they can't get away with it any longer. I won't use them.

Cheers Dave.

Yeah the costs of removing tyres, balancing them and driving to pick up the wheels all add up!

Should have gone with Image

sorry to hear about all the headaches - nothing ever goes easy does it!? Hope they do sort, as the wheels do look great!

Had another call today. At last they are ready, collecting them Saturday morning. Fingers crossed! probably be a frosty morning :)

Finally got the new wheels on the car, much better than the old set. Now have safety markings stamped on the inner side.

Wheels/ car looks great, As you know I bought a set from them they had no safety markings, Whats the story on that, are they ok?

Hi Dave
Well the safety marking thing is still a bit of a grey area, I spoke to the VCA and the guy there (Mr Meadows) told me that any wheel sold to be used on the public highway must have an E marking.
Henry told me that customs wheels do not need this marking and that it is optional! Anyway my wheels now have markings stamped on the back of the spokes, probably doen't mean anything as its not hard to stamp an E into alloy  I didn't give the VCA his name in the end.
The wheels still have a bit of a Homemade look, well at least the centre bits do, the compomotive wheels I had before looked much better (centre caps and enamel paint)
Don't get me wrong the wheels do look great but I would bet they are made in someones Garage, maybe a better route would be to buy the rims direct and have Image make the centres. At least all 4 offsets are the same now.
Should have more news on the strut braces I'm having made on Monday, would you be interest in some? probably be a good price.

Russ, yeah the Guy was fine, in fact I couldn't shut him up! paid by cheque and he was fine with that. I think he is a genuine guy but is having the parts made by a third party. Odd that my wheels were ready 2 days after mentioning the VCA. :)

Actually Dave he mentioned your wheels, he said " you mates has had his wheels now for sometime, and he hasn't complained like you!"
I laughed at that, I can be a real pain in the ass if I don't get what I want:p

I'm not happy with the design of the centers, there ok but I wouldnt buy anymore. I have an account with performance wheels they told me they are the importer for the Australian superlite wheels and that matey in Gloucester has no connection with them or superlite aus and buys the one peice wheels advertised on his web site from performance wheels and has the centres for the 3 peice wheels cast in the Midlands and then makes them up himself . He is full of bull shit and most the storys he told us about supplying big companys are lies.
