My Datsun [few q's]

Thanks so much for all the positive feedback guys, I can't wait to take it to one of these shows and chat to you guys in person. It finally runs beautifully (touch wood), the only bit that NEEDS doing, engine-wise, is the regulator. My Alternator massively over charges.

I think i'd quite like to lower it 30mm or so too, any recommendations? And then, of course, wider wheels w/ 16inch rims.

what do you lot think about the wing mirrors? I'm tempted to get some chrome ones...

it also has some painted silver rear light trims, i'm thinking of spraying them black too.

Driven it to work today! :) love it.

has anyone ever done the Cannonball Run, Europe? i'm so tempted, it looks like great fun!

Oh and one more thing, i have problems with my doors and windows, do you reckon if i took it to a Nissan garage, they'd be able to fix them? (window mech and door catches / re-allignment)

i would make the most of the good weather and use the car and look at doing any upgrades over winter

the problem is that i don't have a large enough garage to work in - in the winter. The car only just manages to squeeze in with barely enough room to open the doors. This means that working on my car in the winter is basically impossible - with work taking up my day time and cold weather/night time meaning i cant work on it outside! pain! spring seems like the best time to work on a car (in my case)

Guy
Whatever you do don't take the car to Nissan Garage. Stay with the poeple that know these cars ie.

"MJP auto" above.
or
Tel 240. "TT Engineering"

Guy,
It looks grand.
As Racer says, don't bother with a Nissan garage, they wouldn't know what it is....or you could have a go yourself....the only way to really understand and know your car is going some work on it yourself.

Some people have put silver tape to replace the flaked off chrome on the door cards.. As for front grill, doubt find new, they get a hard life being at the front of the car. Maybe just strip down the grille (it comes apart) and refurbish.

I am in exactly the same situation, got a garge but absolutely no room.
I do have some mechanic friends so i get fee use of their facilities at weekends.
I can vouch that Nissan garages know zip about S30's went into one last year to find what parts from Nissan were still availiable, and spent about an hour trying to persuade the parts dept guys that a 260z was a real car made by Nissan (Datsun) in the seveties they didn't have a clue!!!
If you are getting rid of your mirrors Ill have emm,:):)

So what's the deal with the airtube vents then??240/260 or a combination??
Great car by the way.
Your take it to Nissan comment was funny!

My '75 260 has them. Or at least it has the holes in the inner wings for them. If it ever had the plastic bits they are long gone. Either way though you can see from the picture that something has been done there. Looks like a couple patches and some filler and seam sealer.

Yeah okay, fair point. they wouldn't have a clue, would they?

I've tried fixing my windows so many bloody times, it's painful. I don't have a clue what's wrong with them, i have literally taken the door apart but the winder still gets stiff and the glass is still not lining up correctly.

is it possible to get a honeycomb style grille? mine just looks rusty and it looks like it's missing 'teeth'. :(

you can get your grill powder coated, cost 30 quid max, looks nice and tidy, suspension, how much do you want to spend and wot do you want the car for, normal driving track days, nice car, nearly went for t a while back, favourite colour for a zed,if you are after door cards i have 2 mint ones for sale,pm me if interested,as for doors they are one of the worst jobs to do on a car,ok if you are a midget

There's a really useful and informative section in the factory service manual that tells you how to do this properly.

Top man. I will have a little read. In all fairness though, i was trying to fix it in the freezing cold with my dad holding the pane of glass and me trying not to slice my hands on the metal edges behind the door card.

I would do some electrical mods; get rid of the voltage regulator and convert it to an internally regulated alternator. Relays for headlights, elctronic ignition, that kind of thing. I wouldn't touch the aesthetics of the car, looks great as it is :)

There's also a really good door/window guide on classiczcars in the article section by the way, lots of pictures

Guy, as I said don't rush into anything. Make friends on here, go to some 'meets' and things will happen.

That's what I did 16 years ago and have enjoyed Zs ever since.

Garage - yep I'm in the same 'boat' too. Need to fit a new road spring to my daughter's Golf this weekend and if it rains I get wet!
