Obviously, that is totally out of our control based on the nature of Japfest and overall demand. As the biggest Japanese car event in Europe, basically you have to get cracking or you risk missing out when the overall allowance for show cars in the event is reached, which has been happening well before announced dates. I’m sure there’s plenty of consternation on other club forums right now. It’s a bit of a shame if it’s a main club get together that you have to get tickets so far in advance.
Thanks Ritchie.Update: there was a post on Facebook on the 19th saying show passes were sold out. It also stated that the organisers were going to work with Silverstone to free up additional spaces, and to keep an eye out.
As Matt says, there seems to be some debate that ongoing building work on site at Silverstone has led them to reduce allocation to Japfest, leading to demand outstripping supply, despite the fact that Silverstone has more than enough space to manage. Japfest Silverstone this year was affected similarly, although not as badly, suggesting they’ve made further limitations. We will have to see if negotiations in the new year lead to anything.Silverstone as a venue has huge areas for cars. This all seems a bit shortsighted. Anyway no such problems at Donington.
It completely outgrew Combe; the problem is they are now putting all their eggs in one basket with Silverstone, when they really shouldn’t have dropped the additional Japfest Donington. Maybe Japfest Classic is trying to make accommodation for that, but that has its own issues: a) Goodwood is a long way from most places! b) the October date risks weather issues; c) the cutoff date might be problematic. In fact, I notice that they seem to have moved the age cutoff from 1999 to 2004. The R34 owners must’ve been having a tizzy!Crikey! It was not so many years ago that Japfest was held at Castle Combe which is nowhere near the size of Silverstone. Just shows how much it has expanded. I hope they provide more tickets for those that missed out on the early bird.
