It feels good.....

Finally, after 5 years of on and off fettling my car is on the road and I went for my first drive yesterday.

It feels great getting to know her again.

I don't recall her ever handling so well, amazing what changing all the old worn rubber bushes to poly bushes does to the handling.

A big thanks to my friends on the forum for their advice and help. Bigger shout out to two pals who also gave up their time to help - you know who you are!

The story started 5 years ago when I went to the Netherlands to pick up an L28ET, it was a rush job to install and I wasnt happy with the end result ....so the journey began.

Now fitted with an old school JDM HKS twin turbo kit from back in the day, my aim was to create a retro old school Z and so far I'm pleased with the results.

As for HP, no idea as a slipping clutch didn't allow any further tuning - not expecting loads as it's an old school kit but for me it's not about the numbers.

There are still bits that I need to do, but that's all part of the fun and I can't wait for the weekend to tinker.

Here's some pics.:

Great to see it back on the road. Engine bay looks superb. cant wait to see it at the half way house again, or can you make it to the pob this sunday?

Wow George, this has made my day. I was worried you'd dropped off the scene a bit but it looks amazing. Well done mate, enjoy it!

That's gonna be a job for me this winter, does it make that much of a difference then....?

Great photo's too..!!

Yes, JK, if you want your z to handle better, it is a must. The rubber bushes, just flex/squash, so there is "movement" within the suspension.

What Ian said - this should be recognised as standard procedure for any car, restoration or otherwise.

George - yiou've put weight on - very happy that it's rolling now - what (in your opinion) is left to do ?

Nice George! Bring it along to Zedfest .

One question - why do so many of these turbos have the air intakes near the exhaust when heat is an issue, is it lack of space for piping from the front of the car? If so what about bonnet vents or using a Zs airtubes in the wing area?

Guys,

Thanks for all the positive comments glad you like it.

Rob - good question, if I had the room it would be best to fit the filter at the front of the car, outside the engine bay, but there is already an oil cooler and an intercooler taking up space in that area.

My design criteria was to keep my car looking stock from the outside (and inside) so I didn't want to put vents in the bonnet, to counteract some of the heat issues I've had the exhaust manifold ceramic coated along with the downpipes, both turbos also have a turbo blanket on them. I'm using an efficient Spearco intercooler up front which shoud help to lower my intake temperatures, and the intake manifold is also ceramic coated. Down the line my intake pipes will be ceramic coated too, it's amazing stuff, yes there is still radiant heat but i was tempted to touch the exhaust manifold after a long run and I didn't burn myself.

Moggy - my next engine picture will have a strut bar in it :)

Johny - Half Way House is definitely on my list of places to go, I now live even further away but will be a great excuse to stretch the cars legs a little more.

Sean - Have to bed in the brand new clutch and get her tuned up properly on the rolling road.

Have family commitments this weekend so unfortunately won't be around, hope you all have a good time and I'll see you soon.
