How to sell a 240Z ?

Sean,

I haven't read all the posts but I'd say don't do it if the intention is to make money on it unless you've really done your home work on the cost of restoration. These projects always seem to sap more time, money and energy then at first thought.

Also, if you're going for the original look why not go for the original colour?

Good luck.

As I've said before on another thread, one colour on one model of car does'nt necessarily suit another. It's a personal thing anyway. Contrary to others I think white suits the 240 admirably. The psychologists would probably argue that colour reflects your personality so in Sean's case flaming red should suit.

The Silver 260Z FRB 74L illustrated above was sold at the recent NEC Classic Car Show for around the figure of £13,500, by the way.

And Sean, despite what I advised you, you are still personalising the Car ( e.g. Gunmetal Gray wheels ) too much for the mainstream taste.

And Jez, interesting stuff about the choice of colours; could I ask for the source of this, please ?

Duncan,

as most threads, this has attracted some 'chaff' and the reference to gunmetal grey wheels is to my second set of wheels for my track-day tyres for my yellow (personal 240Z). Shiny normal minilites for the sale car - as per your advice !!!

I already asked him for the source of colour info so we're all hanging on the edge of our seats.

Nigel - don't laugh, maybe red IS the colour to do it in - what do I care if it sells ? Grey looks so sad and a sports-car from the early '70s should express itself I feel !

Mr G - good point about the original colour but on the V5 it states black and I don't think black was a colour option back then so an obvious re-spray ? When I get the car (next weekend) I'll let you all know what the colour was when it left the factory !

For restoration costs, I told you all that I have one of the best Z restoration and painters (and inexpensive) on my doorstep and financially, if I sell at £13500, it's very viable - how much do you lot pay for your restos ?

Finally, Rahail240 - I love that colour, I imported one from the states like that that now lives just 40 miles away with a black bonnet, chrome light covers, watanabes and jdm wing mirrors - see Boomer here !

Now, is # 01344 sounds much earlier than February 1972 don't you think ?

Don't know if you've seen this LINK before Sean.

You can click on the thumbnails to see an example picture.

I went with the original colours for my Z's, 901 silver and 904 white and I have gunmetal wheels:eek: But I do like the 70's colours particularly 920 gold and 919 yellow:thumbs: I sometimes think I sould have gone with one of those instead of having as the Japanese would say safe colours.

I too like white...I nearly bought a white Z32 this year!....I think white will limit the market of possible buyers though, as most people said to me about the Z32.. "Nice car...Shame about the colour!"!

Dale - that's great - no I hadn't !

I LOVE the 918 orange, the 920 gold is gorgeous and the 260/280 302 green is lovely too.

But would one of these colours sell the car over, say 110 red ?

Charlie boy - nice wheels and silver is safe........but I fear for the brightwork to really shine out and tell people that THIS is a pre-plastic car, something different from your Pug 308 etc..........

I reckon, regardless of how nice (or not so nice) it is, the original colour that the car rolled off the production line would be a great selling point. Certainly in keeping with the original feel you're kind of aiming for.

good point.

Originally, my plan was to do the 260 first, expecting it to take less time and money.....but I've had it on the ramp today and that has changed my mind.

The 240 is now the priority although Rome wasn't built in a day ! The 260 will take second place although plans for it are as yet undecided :

standard ?
G-nose ?
ZG arches ?

The 240 comes with a 'GTO' kit so the 260 could become a GTO......the longer chassis suits it I believe !
