How to sell a 240Z ?

The car i sold Vpulsar i started to paint old english white so Sean i agree would look nice, but i really do think u need to build this car on spec just like us brits do on warehousing ie colour, build spec, time scale, and most important price, with a 15% per year price increase as required i suspect this one wont be for joe public

very clever :)

Alright - it's not primrose yellow....but I still hate Jags and Porkers !

Back to the thread :

silly badges and indicators or not ?

Colour most attractive to buyers ?

NOT sick yellow :D

Badges guess that personal choice, I like them with or without badges.

I think front repeaters look ok Z's without them look abit strange, guess thats because most Z's have them, front indicators look ok on top of bumper especially if the mounting holes are already on the bumper.

As for filling the seam between headlight cowl & wing NO NO sorry Sean

Colour choice defo a very nice dark met blue, seen many nice ones incl one I owned but probabably the real stunner was Dean Bottrills car.

Sean as for making profit out of restoring a Z even if you can do most of the work yourself chances are slim, thats why most companies have finished restoring Z's

No welded seams then ?

A plastic bonnet badge ?

Ugly bumper indicators ? If one can find 'em.......

I want to make a profit - I have to...so I will and it's a way of 'selling' my stock of parts !

effing DJR dark blue ?

No companies have finished restoring Zs..........they just don't do them without a paying customer up front !

What about mirrors ? Those awkard to adjust chromey things that MGs have ? One or two ?

Does my front really turn you off then (colour excepted of course) ?

No not really & even the colour is growing on me now  :D

Not my choice of wheels or seat covers but otherwise - wicked (hope I'm still quicker though )

That's ok, he's on another continent - none of you over there though had better think about 'my' yellow - go play with your red, white and blue !

I'm thinking now of a darkish metallic grey.

Lower the car or standard ride-height ?

I think some money spent on mods. are worth it eg if the brakes are gripped up, cheaper to fit new upgrades and the difference between KYBs and HPs is not enormous.

Thoughts ?

I don't know if I can bring myself to fit front bumper indicators, the under ones are sooo much better looking........

Sean

Massive amounts of respect and kudos for saving one of these beauties. Thing is, the vast majority of us plough money into these cars because we love them and cannot bear to watch them come to a rusty end, not to make a profit. What I have noticed as a relative newbie to the club is that the Datsun following is small and incredibly ethusiastic, but definitely outside the classic car mainstream. Either way, I would not want to be selling a car of that value as the UK economy is on the brink of maybe one of the worst recessions for many a year, classic car prices have decreased dramatically and the only things that seem to be doing well are project cars. People are nervous and starting to watch the pennies. Great if your flush and are after a bargain Maserati Bora or Mangusta, not so great if you're expecting 15k for a Datsun.

Just a personal opinion! :bigears:

Thankyou farstar, opinion valued and appreicated. Over here it's just beginning and some people think it won't happen.....!

But this car won't be finished in 2009, it'll probably coincide with the beginning of the upturn at the end of 2011 and if finished earlier, it'll sit nice and dry with an occasional run around the block until prices move again in the right direction !

No, what was VERY interesting in your reply is this "..............What I have noticed as a relative newbie to the club is that the Datsun following is small and incredibly ethusiastic, but definitely outside the classic car mainstream........"!

Perhaps I repeat myself but there ARE people spending what we here would call serious money on 2 seater S30s but they never appear here, these are people that congregate at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, read through the ads in Classic and Sportscar and go to the acutions in an active capacity.

These type of people already have other much more expensive and even more exotic cars and are probably the people the least touched by any recession. There are Zs out there that we'll never see again and others that we'll only see in prestigeous competition events.

However much we like to think so, this forum and this club does not represent all the cars and a long way from all of the owners.

We are marginal here but that's where the classic car scene put us and maybe why it's such fun to go along to an HSCC race and sniff some of Skiddells' 'whup-arse' in the air - we all love the under-dof, the under-rated, start from the back and cream 'em all car !

It's not long ago that they wanted to ban the 240Zs because they were beginning to win - "it's not fair" they shouted !

Basically, I've lost one 240Z to rust, I got another, I killed a 260Z 2+2 in a road accident - I've got another to save and now I've got another 240Z and I'd love to G-nose it and whack in some horrific lump and beat up every Porker I can find but it'd be nice to do one up as more or less standard AND maybe make some money (that's what I've told Cathy anyway) !

Don't think that you're outa reach.........

ha ha. (apologies for jacking your thread)

seriously though sean. i'm off to gary's on monday to discuss bodywork issues.

i know your bang right in terms of a light colour suiting the s30 lines.

IF (?) i went with a light yellow, it would look quite a bit different to your car with the all my

bits on.

and before you get in there. yes yours will be faster!! :p

If you're doing the car up for yourself then go wacky with the paintwork...Otherwise choose a mainstream colour such as silver, blue, grey etc. to increase your prospective buyers.
It's well known that white paint puts quite a few people off!....

The most popular colours for used cars are listed below:
• BLUE - 23.40%

• SILVER - 23.30%

• RED - 12.60%

• BLACK - 12.50%

• WHITE - 9.50%

• GREEN - 9.00%

• GREY - 6.70%

• GOLD - 0.80%

• YELLOW - 0.80%

• MAUVE - 0.55%

• BEIGE - 0.53%

• ORANGE - 0.32%

You can only join my gang if you pay a forfeit (and what bits ?) and even that depends upon what wheels you're putting on ! Is it gonna look like that US pastel porker ?

Jez - where did you dig up those figures from ?

Status, I loved that light blue........and I'm a little disappointed that Jezs' figures show grey so low !

The car was first registered in the UK on 11/02/1972 and is chassis number HS3001344.

If anyone has any info on it's history, I' d love to see it here please.

I'll also need to know how to regsiter it again as it's been out of the country since 2008, bought from someone who bought it in 2004 !

!

gunmetal/polished lip watanabe wheels (see in my gallery).

carbon fibre bumpers, carbon mirrors, front MSA spoiler etc

and i believe that pastel porker is from moggy's forthcoming homeland down under.

alright, call it an AUS pastel porker ! Nice spoiler though - just what you need for sheep shearing !

But I'm having a set of track-day wheels (Minilite style) painted in.......gun-metal with polished lips........:( ! I don't need the carbon bits as my figure isn't burdened by Harry Ramsdons' best !

I just saw this and have gone right off grey metallic.......
