How long will it take me to put it all back together?!

I thought the gist was he could save an hour by NOT getting it MoT'd and spend that hour faffing about putting stuff back together on the car ... my POV is, why rush it?

Thanks for your comments everyone.

I've booked some days off work as I really want to get it to Silverstone for the 50th. I've paid for that and the 370Z to attend. So I'd like to get it MOTd in time for that (I still think it's not exempt because it's been converted to RHD but would like to have that confirmed). The interior can wait if I run out of time.

I totally agree about not rushing it but I've just about prepped everything that's going back in it so won't be cutting corners. I just need some decent weather so I'm not restricted by my limited working space in the garage, to stay focused, and some luck!

I have no clue how long it will take to reconstruct as I took it part piecemeal. For example, how many hours to refit all the parts to a door? Clueless!!

Are you 100% sure that you have all the parts/data you need to put it all back together? Anything you are not sure of? Need any diagrams/factory list stuff?

In my experience - and I'm going through it again at the moment - you can think you've got all your ducks in a row and start out with the best of intentions and all confidence, and then sod's law kicks in. As Jon has mentioned, getting doors & wings to line up nicely again can be a real pain, as is getting windows to roll up and down smoothly and sit properly. It's better not to rush it.

Which window rubbers/door seals (new?) are you using? I've had issues with the green-labelled Precision brand rubbers.

I can never be 100% sure! With the exception of some of the (new) interior panels I took it apart myself so I have a pile of bits...

I took photos and have the Haynes book and PDF Datsun manuals printed out.

I am short of a couple of tiny rubber seals at the top of the quarter lights but that's all. Most of the rubbers are the Precision ones that came new with the car (you're scaring me now!) Some are from East Kent Trim supplies who are, thankfully, just a walk away from me. Steve is a top bloke and on standby with door and window seals should I need to switch brands.

I'm lucky that (another Steve) in the body shop is putting the doors on and lining them doors up - accurately I hope! He has an eye for detail so I'm confident he'll do a good job.

I'm going to go back through all the photos I took when I dismantled it. A bit like a racing driver closing his eyes and imaging driving the circuit just before the race!!

Not wishing to encourage scope creep but do yourself a favour and add some mass loaded vinyl to the doors and other panels before you pop in the door cards and plastic trim (especially the roof too) - having just done mine, it makes a heck of a difference to comfort and only takes 15 mins if doors are already in bits (but I guess ever minute counts on your schedule). ;)

DEFINITELY the BEST colour, no mistake.

I had never heard the stuff in question called 'mass loaded vinyl' before and had to google it.

Soundproofing is for wusses. You sound like an OAP! :p EXTRA:D

Paintwork and panel fit etc looks like a really nice job.

Can't see from photos, but will you be doing factory-style blacking out of the sections of radiator support panel that are visible through the grille? Hope so. It seems slightly jarring to see body colour through there. I can see why the factory did it originally.

Yes, it looks OK in the pics I think. I am patiently waiting for a call to say it's on it's way...

That's a good question. To be honest I didn't give it a second thought and just went with the same as when I got it. The car had been (badly) resprayed before and they must have been painted the body colour then. I'll have to see how it looks but I agree with you, I don't particularly like to see the body colour through the grille either. That might be a future tweak.
