My 1975 280z, just before it left me, was giving me a problem in that it would sometimes run and others it would just crank and not fire.
Turns out a friend told me that the older AFM were very touchy and most likely the internals were corroded etc. He told me to tap on the AFM and see if I could get the fuel pump to fire up.......it worked. Not only did it work one time, it worked every time I had a problem with eh electric fuel pump not working on start up. Just a few taps on the AFM.

Not a fix but at least you can check to see if it works for you and then go from there.

My phone does not do the colour justice, the actual colour is 022 Datsun from late 72 onwards.
Whilst the original colour was 110, I vowed my first full restomod would be orange so I have tried to respect the brand by selecting a colour possible on a Datsun of the era.

It's less vivid in the flesh and a more pastel 70's paint.

Cleaned, fitted and wired starter and alternator..

Also looking at moving the coil to the opposite wing. Making room for the cold air system.

I had been leaving the rusty fuel tank, that was like a half empty packet of crisps.

Once I double checked the cost of a second hand one for the 2nd time..
Let's do this..

Ingredients:
Hydrochloric acid 36% £39
Por15 metal prep £25
Por15 degreaser £25
Por15 fuel tank repair £52

After pouring 20l of full strength Hydrocloric acid into the tank we sealed all holes (one with a cloth so it could breath)
Then some various shaking and turning for 6 hours.
This was to get through the really thick rusting all over the tank.

Then filled the tank to reduce the effect of the acid and left it full for 20 hours.

Before rinsing twice

Then after that used the por15 metal prep. If I'm honest I am unsure if this step was really required.

After that I rinsed thoroughly with water.

Many hours drying the inside of the tank to ensure there was no remaining water inside..

Final step to pour the por15 tank seal, I was sceptical of the 1l tin and its or my ability to ensure full coverage.

I was really impressed by the coverage.. lots of shaking and jiggering... I felt like I needed a trampoline..

Got to say I am initially impressed.

I have also blowm through all the pipes to ensure they are free and replaced the drained with some oil on it to prevent it sticking whilst keeping the thread clear.

Almost completed the re-looming in the engine bay.

Hopefully I can connect a battery and test some systems later this week.
Particularly to rewired dip and main (relays)
Test the lamps and washer bottle looming.

Wipers
Etc etc etc....

This was looming the injectors,

Busy week...
Lots of small jobs finished

Also my 260z euro lights arrived. As the unit is no where near as good as mine I will swap out the amber lens into my tail lamps..

Wipers fitted:
These were not in a great state, the wiper heads had rusted solid and would not turn on the aluminium brackets.
Have freed those off and oiled
Whilst out of the car (not connected battery as yet) I have tested the wiper unit as I know most dont work..
