GT6 Mk1 on its way!

Oh bro - Si, after all the advice we've shared, I've finally riled you ? And was that childish or chilli-dish.:p

If you enjoy what you've bought - great - I still think that'll you'll regret the classic look and smell (but modern convenience) of a Z but time will tell. I for one would be interested to read what a Triumph forum would say about you buying a Z - could be very enlightening about British sportscar ownership and perhaps a little more 'acid' than here ! On the other hand, maybe we might have a pleasant surprise and agree to swallow our words about Triumphs......maybe....

Fair play I say
Nowt wrong with a change of tune imo
Given the opportunity I'm sure I would have bought a Dolomite Sprint as well :D

I wouldn't, back in the 70's I owned an 1850 Dolomite for 11 weeks & it was nowt but trouble, nuff said.

I think everyone is being very harsh!!!.
Not at all.
How many other people on here have recently spent £2250 on an MOT failure car that is FORTY years old without ever seeing it let alone hear it running or test drive it?????:confused:

Like everyone on here I wish Si well with his new project but you will never convince me that ...1. The GT6 is a wonderful classic or 2. That the above method is the way to buy one for a man who in the past has shown limited mechanical abilities and who never seemed to have any realistic amount of funds available.
Total madness IMO

I to am a grown up. Grown up enough to offer my opionion on this public forum, all be it with a bit of gentle piss takeing thrown in! I'm afraid talking about a gt6 on this forum left you wide open for a bit of flack mate! But hey no bad feeling intended. Good luck with the beast.

...No probs...I did post it on the anything and everything section!.....banter I know but it goes a bit far sometimes and I've also noticed an element of negativity at times....LOTS of great advice and top helpful people though.

I've got a couple of grand to spend on this one so I should be able to sort it quite soon..(famous last words).

Will keep ya posted...Si

p.s. 'taking' is without an 'e' ....! BANTER ONLY MATE! ..hee hee....wheres the DJ?

Can't help being negative about the car atm - but hoping to see it more positively when you've 'tinkered' :) !

All "classics" are ;)
Still back in yr 2007 I would still like a pukka 16v Sprint n not a 1850 wannabe :D

I'm talking about when I was a "kid" when a sprint would cost too much to insure but it taught me one thing "never touch a BL car again"

I think as a club we are very negative and opinionated.

A bunch of bastards from reading this thread! If I was a new member I'd be really put off!

Anyway, GT6 is a beautiful if underpowered car. I've always fancied one! Get some pics up as soon as you can! Can't wait to see it!

I've been watching them for some time on ebay and you got it for a decent price (if its as nice looking as in that pic!).

(Nice to see the change towards the end of this thread though, you're not all bastards!) ;)

Rollocks - that's why I chose a Z ! And I'm not being just loyal and whatnot - I'm serious !

Yes the only trouble I've had in 27 years is one blown head gasket.

You aint a member so what's the problem ? And you've been pretty scathing on other peoples' GTOs that they've obviously spent time upon.....

and doesn't handle, and is unreliable and rusts like any other old car !

At least you are honest Sean!;)

I always was an honest bastard !

When I was looking to replace my Austin 1300 (first car) back in late 1986, I also considered a GT6, a Dolly Sprint, Alfas and I can't remember what else and settled on a TA40 Celica XT,black with a black interior...and airco. Luckily for me that I chose Japanese - I sold it two years later for the same money after I'd seen a mate with a rough 260Z 2+2 ! I had to have a Z but after sniffing out some history, decided upon a 240Z ! I went nearly 6 months without a car until I found a car I liked in the right condition (I thought) !

Anyway, all that to say that I'm glad to have turned my back on British sportscars - here are two contempories of the 240Z :

you choose and tell me why !

Well I think the green one is faster, handles better and not to mention you can get 4 x15" subs in the back....

Give the guy a break, he is not into cars anymore, his choice. I too have nice collection of dinkytoys.
I'd rather have a GT6 than a MG, but if only they could have made them full scale! The main difference for me with the Z, mechanical apart is the size of it. When on a Lotus Elan or an Alpine A110 it's for the best... on all other Brit from the era it's nothing but a scaled down product. Less of everything, you could carve the wooden dash out of a match on a GT6, you would need a full barrel of premium Oil do make a 240Z dash:D

Read the Road and Track review (done back in July 1970) and don't forget to add the better euro bitz onto the 240Z !

It says it all !
