FRP Datsun/Zedfest

Does anybody know the weight of a standard 73 240 bodyshell?

So a basic bare shell no bolt-on panels, glass, dashboard etc

clearly your PC doesnt have "Google" on it:rolleyes:

Well I finally dropped my Z off the rotisserie tonight and I had promised BlueOvalZ, Terry Oxandale, that I would weigh the bare body shell. Of course I promised him this over a year ago when I put it on the rotisserie.

I have it on four jack stands and bought four cheapo bathroom scales to place under each stand. I added up the weights and subtracted out the weight of the jack stands.

And the verdict is 520 pounds

Ben no. is 07944 838 897. Available all day tomorrow. If I don't answer leave a message and I'll ring back (I will have resiny gloves on)

Back of the net with 5 seconds on the clock, way to go Pete

Hi Dale, I live in a small village called Allenheads with a workshop in the village where my car is.
When I get a bit further on with my build you are welcome to come and have a butchers.(great roads!)

That's a very kind offer Craig, I'd be very interested to see it.

And you're right about those roads; I was down that way recently to take the missus to see High Force Falls. When you go over a cattle grid, you know your gonna have fun! :D Well, as long as you don't hit a sheep.

I haven't considered it to be honest. I'm not even sure I like the look of it, reminds me of a Stag a bit.
But might be fun to make one.
If you've emailed FRP then it will go to my mate Stephen, I will chase up the info you've asked for

As an aside, I emailed you this weekend for prices, postages rates and weights of your panels.:)

I have been told that paid-up members of the Z Club will be eligible for a 15% discount off prices quoted on the website.

Perhaps our panels will be 15% thinner ;)

Isn't it a bit early in the day to have started on the vino Sean?

I don't find the concept unattractive - especially if one doesn't have to cut up a coupé !

But it should be done in good taste - those seats and door cars remind me of Murph in The Blues Bothers and the bonnet looks like a form of bacon slicer !

I personally don't like that car at all, and I think it proves you can't just 'lop off' 25% of a great design and be left with a great design.

All the great 'topless' cars were designed to be just that. Christ I'm digging myself into a hole here, sorry to any Roadster owners reading this

I just don't see the point in creating such a car ground up.

Whoever said less is more ?

I still like the shape. The point is if people buy it - look at all those GTO kits sold and cars imported upon which to fit them - I wouldn't do one of them !

What about frameless doors as per the 280ZX ? and opening rear 1/4 lights as per the 260Z 2+2 ?

I'm not taking the mick !

Well chop the roof off a car with a sunroof then, since those are best on the scrap heap anyway :p

Still no news.

Basic questions are (panels) :

weight and thickness
group/club prices
photos on int/ext
postage rates (approx. for now)

We've over 600 Zs over here.

Thanks.

Sean
I think Stephen has gone abroad watching Scotland play football.
From memory the weights for the panels for a road application made from standard FRP are approx:
Bonnet 8 kilos, Wings 5 kilos, doors 4.5 kilos, tailgate 2.5 kilos, front spoiler 2 kilos.
These weights are based on a 3oz/900g lay up.
A 1oz laminate gives a thickness of 0.7mm and the gellcoat about the same so 3oz + gellcoat gives approx 3mm thickness.
Knock 25% off the weight for E-glass and polyester resin
Knock 40% off for carbon and vinylester resin.
15% discount for Zclub members.
There's some pics of the panels on the website, if you need specific photos let me know.
Checking out postage (do you want prices for 'a wing' or a pallet full etc?) but if enough interest from you I might load a van up with panels and drive over with them then fill the van up with your excellent wine for the return journey!

I would like photos int and ext and weights of each panel please.

Trade discount prices, and postage prices for individual parts.

A van load can be discussed for later but I'll need to circulate some of your parts first, bumpers for ex.

Be easier no ? if we exchange via email ?

Soft top that keeps the rear swoop?
The flat boot was awfull on that bodge up convertable, with a soft roof this way the car can keep that lovely rear line but we can drive in the rain in England and think we are in Monaco (except for the sh*t weather all year)
Excuse my photoshop skills everyone!
