Exhaust choice

Fujitsubo as it comes:

The gds and a few others have really short primaries which will move power up the rev range, I can't see them working on anything but a 9000rpm motor where you don't need midrange.

I had a GDS on my old car and it worked really well from 4500. I rated it but of course unless you try individual components on an engine in a testing environment who knows how it compares.

The Fujitsubo comes in two sections: manifold to behind the mid/crossover box, then section that passes under rear suspension to tail pipes. Backbox is not detachable on its own.

Thanks. So there is no option of a single pipe and yours 'replicates' the Z432 OEM system ?

This is surely (although the images don't suggest it) : wierd, I can't copy and paste but up on their site KAMERAI Drag Muffler 75 Exhaust - steel at £600 ?

I'm not at all criticising them (nice kit) but I can't see any of them being safely under the 98dB level.

Perhaps someone else could quote Japans' road dB level, tested during their 'MOT's ?

The other question, would the manifold fit on LHD cars ?

Richie - please can you measure the thickness of the flange and also the depth/height of the bar that runs along underneath the primary ports.

I assume them to be 15 and 10mm respectively but would very much appreciate their confirmation.

Flange thickness is 15mm, bar across bottom appears to be 10mm height. Very substantial compared to the **** one on my old MSA manifold - no leaks, perfect fit. And just for ref, the primaries are 45mm, 1 3/4".

From what I can make out from the US forums, some saying the Fujitsubo manifold does not fit LHD cars. However, at least one guy posted saying he had actually fitted one fine. I think the usual problem persists - lots of people repeating the same old bobbins as fact without firsthand knowledge.

Made me rolleyes reading that thread. One guy suggesting FGK should contract them out to be made in the US of A so they didn't have get them from Japan. Can't imagine the quality would be comparable.... :p

Thanks and I don't think the USA is worried too much about build quality - pile 'em high and sell 'em cheap !

For info : up on Dave Jarmans' FB journal (8th March) : 1972 Ex-HSCC racer now at The Z Farm, L24 engine producing 225bhp (94/litre) using one of my 1 5/8th race/sport manifolds and systems.

1x RHD DJS30 exhaust manifold with secondary 'Y' pipe available from a buyer upon whose car it doesn't fit (an '80s Laurel). Already within the UK.

Last one available - warning, does NOT fit with twin SUs.

PM me for his email address and deal direct with him.

ps sorry for the 'ad' here but my attempted ads keep being bounced back.

You can tell a lot when primary lengths are so different. I think the Jan speeds are the same aren't they? They could make the car feel faster as it produces a defined curve.

Saw it at Zfarm the other day, awesome piece of machinery! I have to admit there was a silencer attachment on the exhaust though lol :smash:

Having read through this thread out of interest, you guys are getting me very worried.

Being fairly new to Z ownership and still not knowing too much about them yet at some point, I would hazard a guess that I will need to replace my exhaust but I am not interested in performance or racing. I would just want a stock exhaust for a S30 2+2 but it doesn't seem that I would be able to get one. Is that the case or is there a supplier?

I am not sure I would want to pay megabucks for some whizzy stainless steel or performance system like on some of the links in the thread unless I had no other choice. Perhaps I need to keep my fingers crossed that it goes on and on!

Hi Pual.

There are plenty of base-price after-market exhaust manifolds and exhaust lines available direct from the USA suppliers or via MJP here. There are various options of manifolds and also finishes like ceramic coating.

But excuse me :D, who's talking mega-bucks already ? I'm aiming to produce at least one of these manifolds at a modest price that'll do just as much for a standard car than a mildly tuned one and I'd rather sell 100 and make my return on investment than wait for 20 big payers.....all the time mine are out there on cars, they'll be selling more by your kind feedback and good results of which I'm confident !

If I sell mine at Japans' prices.....you'll only go and buy these 'cos it's got to be good if it's made in Japan for a Japanese car....

Sorry for hijacking the thread which is a general subject one....

Again, apologies to the original poster for the hijack ;)

Sean, at some point in the next year or two i will want to replace my exhaust,

i assume its entirely possible to tweak the length of your exhausts to suit the 2+2?

and what increase in cost would it entail please?

Love the look of your kit, defo on my list of wanted upgrades

It's something I prefer to do whilst fitting on a car......but if you're up to up, I'll add you an extra length of pipe for you to weld yourself - free.

Let me get hold of an owner upon whose car I've already done it - get some photos and measurements. I SHOULD cater for the 2+2 market really.....shouldn't I.

Great, that would be good for future reference

Now that the 2 seater S30's value's are getting a bit high, more people will be looking to
the less desirable (to some!) 2+2's for a way into Z ownership, so yes, i think further down
the line there will be a lot more interest for 2+2 shiny bits from your good self! :D

You advance a good argument.

I'll look into it - it would be better to have a stock of ready to bolt on 2+2 length pipes.
