Engine on ebay

I saw this engine last year when I went to see the white imported (Australian) 240Z.

Owned before by 900SS.

Already well past any price I would consider, perhaps some suspect bidding going on?

One of the bidders (one for £1600) has had 5 bid retractions in the past 6 months!

Plus his description doesn't add up.
If he's rebuilt with all these new parts
Why quote ' previous owner says engine went like hell'
If its rebuilt then what did it matter??
Plus no response from any of my questions so far through e bay.

.... has it since been rebuilt again then ?

Was a used engine with some miles when I sold it

I think this engine will be a similar spec to mine but a short-stroke 2.6 (mine has 2.8 crank too).

Wyn I can remember when this was for sale - it was a good buy at the time. But not a rebuilt unit.

When I discussed the engine with this seller it was not rebuilt either. What I would say is that this guy is a good engineer (Aston Martin Specialist) and was not pushy about his 240Z i.e. not your usual salesman. That too was a very nice car.

If I was after a sporty engine I would think it a reasonable gamble at £1k with those carbs (off and Aston?) and exhaust manifold (like mine). At the current price (£1650) I would want a guarantee and paperwork back-up to confirm the rebuild (which he says he has).

So have you spoke to him Rob?
Because his ad gets more confusing each time I look at it.
He states he has invoices for nearly 3 grand but the picture of invoice ,which that clear ,and isn't that Kevin irons invoice from 98 anyway ??
If he's recently rebuilt it , surely he'd have current invoices to back it up.
I'm just worried if the winner is from our club it's maybe not what it is.

Yep I see your point. Without any recent invoices it's worth a grand 'as is' IMO.

That paperwork shown is exactly like mine, an invoice from Kevin Irons and a rolling-road session at Daventry - mine gave 175bhp.

Why would someone up the bid from 500 quid to 1600 quid with 5 days to go??????

Because possibly the previous bidder made a higher bid of £1550 and would be listed as his lowest bid ie £500, if that makes any sense. The next bidder would have to beat his highest bid of £1550 although I suspect there's something dodgy going on here especially with a feedback of 2.

maybe they're just bidders who can't wait in at the final second to place a bid? The idea of an auction is that people bid to their maximum, it doesn't really matter if thats at the start of the listing or the end.

I'm sure the ebay users amongst us don't have the time to wait in and bid at the last second on bits they're after? Well not all the time!

well, just being nosey i spoke to chris the seller.
its had no work done since kevins work in 1998.
so someones paying really strong money for an engine that will definately need stripping and possible rebuild of some form.
just in case its anyone here at the club bidding.
at first glance it really does read that its freshly built with him stating new parts.
well, its not!!
