Different engines

Jeez , Mr F are you really afraid to say the Ford word?? I promise I'll put a post up with at least 3 references to GM in return!!:D

F.........., Fo..............,FFF..........

No, can't do it - must be something to do with all the traumatic Fraud experiences I've had in the past - all (and I mean ALL ) my worst car experiences have been with this manufacturer.

100E side valve - white metal non-replaceable bearings not economically repairable so throw the car away. Vacuum wipers that work the worst when you need them the most!
Corsair 2000E (when it was virtually a new car) - pops small by-pass hose and within seconds both head gaskets blown and all four bores filled with water.
Same Corsair - pulls anti-roll bar mount out of chassis under heavy braking on M1 (this was not a rusty car then, either). Cheapskate manufacturer is using anti-roll bar to double up as tension rod, so wheel disappears into rear of wheel arch.
As an aside on this engine - distributor bracket kept working loose. Ask main dealer for new one ("Not a part we supply, sir. Never goes wrong.") Found one lying in the road at traffic lights outside main dealers....
F**d part of Lotus Elan even worse than the Lotus parts - three months of bits dropping off or failing are enough - give up.
Granada estate for towing - V6 thermotime switch means that when you pop down the shops for a pint of milk the car won't start again until it is absolutely stone cold. No-one had an answer to this problem.
Same Granada - rear brake shoes depend on what was to hand on the production line on the day your car was made, so you have to have shoe in hand as a pattern to ensure you get the right one - great news if this is your only car and dealer is miles away.
Same Granada - successive falures of rear wheel bearing, driveshaft and finally differential all on one side.
Only decent F**ds I had were two Mustangs, '66 and '69, but poor handling compared to the GM USA models that followed. I would liken the move from F**d USA to Chevrolet to the move from Triumph TR6 to 240Z which opened my eyes as to how much better a car could be even though they were basically setting out to target a similar market!
And look at what they've done to Jaguar!

Open wound - stick - poke - ow!

And what car did I leave on Mike's drive for a while? (Which I think he actually had to drive once)....

A 1986 F**D Sierra XR4x4!!!!

Lol... arf... woof... hehehehe

Actually, in all fairness, it was a great family wagon and fun-mobile in one package. Sure the engine rattled like skeletons shagging in an oildrum, but they came out of the factory that way so I was never worried. Oil leaks were a way of life. It was a great motorway cruiser on our regular 500 mile round-trips to the in-laws , although it was frighteningly thirsty when driven with a heavy right foot. It would do 130+ with ease, hit 60 in 8 seconds and feel no different if fully loaded, and I haven't had another car that was as good at nipping in and out of traffic. And as for the fun factor on small country roads? Four-wheel drift... yeah baby!

Oh, and with a tow-hitch on the back I never, ever got tailgated :)

Love 'em or hate 'em, that particular Ford served us well. Rust in peace.

A mate of mine from had an XR4x4 with a turbo technics conversion - could not catch my 260 Samuri :)

He was putting out more BHP and had four wheel driveand a turbo but still Spike's big valves and gas flowed head won.

Made me grin.

Made him sick.
