Dans 240Z

Yeh, it's looking good Dan.

What's the rush - you young lads are always in so much of a hurry?

I looked through this thread from the beginning again - you've done well so far.

I think I have some wheels that would fit the hubs.

Would they be ones from a 370Z :p They would fit the hubs but would'nt clear the struts on the back at a guess.

I'm after something that isn't common (I've been looking for over a year!)..

Thanks for all the kind words.

Dan

Ideally looking for 17's as I dont think 16's will clear 330mm discs and calipers.

Shame though as a set of magnesium wheels would be ace....but I dont think they are wide enough either - I've got the wide ZG fender flares not the normal ones (people have fitted 11-12J wheels under!) I'm looking for 10-10.5" rear.

Thanks for keeping a look out though much appreciated!

Dan

Yeah, I was thinking they'd need spacing out to fill those arches, especially as they have a small +ET, which I presume you don't want to do. Finding the right wheels is a nightmare.

Lots of progress since we last spoke Dan! Its looking brill! One hell of a build to take it from what it was!

Not really updated for awhile. Found some wheels, ordered wider lips and rebuilt them in the end. Had my rear bells machined up at work and just need to make a bracket to hold both calipers on each rear wheel.

Need some 275/40/17 tyres and some 225/235/45/17 if anyone has any knocking about...

Also need a different T56 gearbox now as I am going for the LS1 engine, can convert mine to work but for the cost I'd be better selling it (or keeping for another project ;) ) and buying a new T56 magnum.

Then I need to order my mounts from BrokenKitty...and make my wiring loom up...plus get HPTuner or LS1edit so I can play with the ECU to work with the Datsun...

Anyone got 4-5 grand they don't need?

Dan

Not really done that much again all down to money really.

Managed to get the car on wheels at last and roll it outside to give the workshop a clean out...

Moved it back in...waiting for the engine and gearbox to be placed in now and mounts made up...

Reluctantly then started to take the engine out of the Camaro - was an absolute blast to drive around for a month in. Honestly - these do handle pretty well in standard form considering its 14 years old! Thanks to the besties for helping out this day... Impossible job to be done on its own. You literally have to take the engine and gearbox out with the cradle whilst the car is in the air - the cars are built around the engine...stupid design and poor engineering..

Then it was time to start on the wiring loom. Lots I didnt need with my conversion so pulled the whole lot apart and cut out all the bits I didn't need....quite a lot of wiring can be thrown away...

Once I had cut it out I could drape it around the engine to get it roughly how I wanted...

To be able to start and run the engine I needed to disable VATS (known to us english folk as the immobiliser system). This is a bit of a trick really, you can either buy a $700 program to do it or a small black box that does the trick...fortunately for me someone had already bought one of those box's in american and decided to strip it down... so I nipped to Maplins...bought all the parts and made my own...

I could then...start the engine [;)]

All my parts ordered yesterday (gearbox/flywheel/fuel pump/mastercylinder etc) but the clutch was on backorder so got to wait a wee bit longer for that...Hopefully will have everything but that next Tuesday... so can get mocking up in the car
Dan

Oh, and if I can also ask - I'm still looking for a handbrake lever, front screen (preferably heated), and bonnet hinges (without play!) - If you have some or know anyone with some can you please let me know?
Thanks,
Dan

PMac might be worth a try

Dan already knows about me and has been a couple of times,:D
He knows I still have a bit of stuff left probably a handbrake .
All bonnet hinges are between 35 and 40 years old so finding any "like new" is going to be hard.
I think many owners are now coming to realise this. Those that havent will soon.;)

Who are you?

If you can find me a handbrake would be handy as I lpan on putting the gearbox in the car in a couple weeks.

Hinges - I may try to repair mine if not I'll buy a few more aerocatches
