Cost of a full body respray

There's resprays and then there are resprays.

I had a car blown over recently for 2k and it looked like the paint had been sprayed on using a hoover....that was fine cos it did the job I needed

I've also had more respectable cars painted which have been closer to 15k (no rust) but a paint finish to die for.

I got a quote on this Mustang a few weeks ago to get it beautifully painted and lined up, little rot and they wanted 25K plus materials  All blasted too

I've now set up a restoration shop myself and I know what these things cost...you pay your money and take your choice but remember you don't get anything for nothing.

The question most people ask is 'how much' ,

The answer is 'what do you want to pay ?' - ie what finish do you want - it's all in the preparation !

Vipergts, if you got a guote for a Classic Mustang and a Mondeo same work, same finish do you think the quote would be the same?

No I don't Rob :)

But there is usually more involved in painting old cars and more often than not a gun finish is normally all is needed on a modern sausage.

Time is money ;)

Quoted just over 5k in which includes some interior work and the panel re-allignment. not bad? 3k for priority bits and interior.

Guy, it's difficult to know if it's a good price unless you split the interior off the bill. Also you didn't actually send pics of the priority bits.

My gut feeling is it's expensive.

For a balanced view (requested), I echo Rob :

please list:

- interior 'work' and are they competent to do more than body prep and paint ?
- priority bits
- state of delivered car - ie are you part dismantling
- bare metal respray with any necessary 'repairs' ?
- painting syops where ? Door jambs ie visible bits or whole car ?
- £5k includes VAT ?

As scary as too much is also not enough ;-) !

Cheers

Saw my car today, I'll try to get a photo up asap.

Bare metal, all shuts, some minor repairs to bottom of doors and bonnet hinge mounts.

All gall out, BB&D all off and stripped, looking awesome so far, had to go with a VW colour with a tweak to get the original 110 colour.

£5k was the 'guesstimate', I think he'll ask for a little extra also.
