Whoops!....Just realised that we've gone a bit off topic here!:D

288 GTO predecessor to the F40.

2.8 litre V8 with twin turbos (made in Japan....the turbo's that is).
Shared the same door skins with the 308/ 328 series, but that is where the similarity ends.

The Pininfarina 308 GT produced circa 1975.The 288 GTO is a classic desirable as well, but then again are'nt they all? I also have owned BMw 2800 coupe sport,s,1971 plate 200bhp,elec window's power steering, wooden dash, etc. Comfort combined with power & expensive on part,s. Returning to Japanese car's,the only other jap car that I have owned in the past is the pillarless Toyota Celica 1600 ST...............DJZ 60.

The exact car I am using as my runaround whilst the 260Z is off the road. And it is my next project !

All I need now is a Z423, a C110 Skyline and a 2000GT - then my Jap car collection will be complete ........ dream on !

I have very fond memorie's of the 1600 Celica.It was a fun car,& nice looking too. Envious collection Zedhead,& that,s before XUL come's into the picture..................................DJZ 60.

Hi,
The 541 was actually a better looking car, particularly the early model with the swiveling front flap air intake! The later P66 concept car was much better looking than the lumpy CV8 too!...But I still prefer the later Interceptor!

I guess I don't like the seventies interiors of big, luxury GTs !

Rob's not the only owner of a Celica - I've one too but a TA 40 ! Lovely recirculating ball steering and 'wobbly' suspension - makes one appreciate a Z all the more ! 1.6 (single cam) twin choke carbs give me 30 mpg though and 'mature' fun in the country lanes ! All for 600 squid !

well i must admit i wouldn't class any thing later than a 260 as a classic , but im biast cos i dont like 280's 300's. i think nissan lost the plot during the 80's/90's

what they should have done is continued with a basic and dare i say it a "rough and ready" balls out performance cars like ferrari etc. did. ie very little in the way of extra's ie power steering/air con/elec.windows and the list could go on.

GROLLS DUCKS TO AVOID THE HEAVY OBJECTS THROWN AT HIM!!!!!:p :p :p

Hi,
If Nissan/Datsun had kept trying to sell the 260/280Z in the 1980's they would have been dead in the water, as the market and peoples expectations had moved on!
That's why the 280ZX did so well in that era and the 300ZX z31 was also a great success...despite what some may say now!
I prefer the looks of the 280ZX to a 260Z 2+2 any day!
The early cars don't do anything for me personally, but I can appreciate what others see in them and I don't keep insulting their owners!;)

I have to agree with Jez that Nissan got the 280ZX right for the market at the time ! What they didn't do was offer the turbo to each market and early enough to sway the minds of clients looking for looks AND performance ! This was corrected for the Z31 !
Jez, I didn't read of anyone insulting other owners - just people airing their personal tastes - we're not against that, are we ?

sorry jez no insult intended, but yes your right the market was right at that time for the 280/300. what i put so badly was that i wish datsun had continued to make performance cars in the upper leagues like the ferrari's etc. only cos i think they would be outragously good;instead the went for luxury performance/touring cars.....:D

Who is levis, can I meet her ?

Grolls, I'm not sure I follow you 'cos Nissan only started making Ferrari beaters with the Z32 ! What did you expect them to produce and compete against in 1978 ?

Perhaps Steve could move this thread to another topic zone - it's no longer meetings and shows !

Hi,
Perhaps "insulting" was the wrong term, but I get fed up having to defend the ZX's, when people dismiss them so readily!...We get enough stick from JC and crew and the ill informed motoring press!
I wasn't having a go at you, Grolls, just ZX knockers in general!:D ..if you know what I mean!
