Classic Jap show

Hi,
Why don't you ask the MGOC whether any Z's are "classics"...I'm sure they'll set you straight!:D
JEZ

p.s. I find the CV8 about as attractive as as a Daimler Dart!

Hi,
It tends to be the motoring press who like to pidgeon hole cars into different, convenient categories.
In reality, I couldn't give a rats @rse what other people think...I just like certain cars and don't care if they are considered "classic" or not!
Cheerz,
JEZ
p.s. I also have a web page about Renault 17s!:D

Jez, perhaps you could tell me why there was a 15 and a 17 at one time, then - they looked pretty much the same to the casual observer with different lights and trim ... any more to offer?

I guess the 17 was the forerunner of the Fuego - always wanted a 1565 turbo, but ended up having Sciroccos instead, whilst my mate had a Fuego ..

Sean, why are 911s overrated? I've only ever had the pleasure of driving one once, and that was a 996 turbo, and IMO it would be difficult to over-rate it - it was phenomenal!! :D :D To my mind, regardless of who bought them in the 80s they are one of *the* all time classics.

Just as an aside, the current 996 (non-turbo), is only a mere shade quicker than a 350, and we're talking a whisker here - trust me!! ;) £35k change, anyone?

CheerZ,
JB.

Hi,
Here's the main difference ....
r1517_a22.jpg

The earlier 17 Gordini model is considered the "classic" model, but I prefer the later TS model in these pictures!

Hi Jez,
Ok I undertand the difference now between the Renaults. If you buy a green one you get a good time girl thrown in with the deal !

Hi,
That's right....all 15's came with a complimentary "lady", but the 17's had the pillarless side windows and rear window louvres !:D

Hi,
I liked the Fuego too, in fact my father went to the local dealer to buy one...but came back with an automatic Renault 20 instead!
I wanted a mk1 Scirocco storm too!...and an Alfa GTV6 and a Monza GSE and a Lancia HPE Volumex and and and......:D ...But I bought a 280ZX instead!

No, a 968 Club Sport - much better. One of the greatest drivers cars about (apparently, according to the press, I've never driven one).

I must say I'm not a fan of 80's 911's because of that Yuppie image.
However, being a 70's sports car/ coupe fan I wouldn't say no to a 1971 Carrera RS, or better still a rarer than rocking horse shite RSR !

And if that lottery win did come along, one of the 'moderns' sat in my 10 car garage would be the latest generation 911 GT3.

Ahhh, yes - the mk1 Storm was the car to have - I always liked the Giugario (sp?) shape better, although the 2nd generations had much less tin-worm - what a great combo - 1.6 GTI engine, lower front airdam and luxury of luxury for the time - Leather Seats!!! :D

Had 2 mk1 GLSs and 1 mk2 GTX - amongst some of my favourite cars, acually. :D

I'd still like a STORM now, actually, in my own 10 car garage! :)

Symon, "Rarities - Maybe Mazda Rx7 & my Nissan Silvia" I don't think the RX-7 classes here, rather the Toyota 2000 ! Even the 260Z isn't 'highly' desirable ! Which came first, the NSU or Citroen GSX rotary engined car ? And wasn't the Model T rather ordinary but it's manufacturing prcatice the speciality ?

JEZ "I find the CV8 about as attractive as as a Daimler Dart!" Not the prettiest of cars (don't confuse it with the 541 !) but well constructed, fast and comfortable for 1962 !

I can't believe this, fans of the 'Johnny boy' (French for Kevin of Kevin and Tracey notoriety) Renault 15 and 17s with the Fuego as tombstone ! These cars are known over here as just for looks - the last good Gordinin was the R12 ! A Sirocco I can accept but the 15/17s were the French equivalent of the Ford Capri 1.6 and 2 lt GLs only with worse build quality ! Nice if you're a fan of seventies kitsch !

Rob, I wouldn't choose a Porsche for the ultimate driving experience - I chose my 240 for that ! No, I'd have the big engined one for cruising across Europe, or a Z31 !!!

Moggy240 - I totally agree with you and your dictionary - does that reinforce my original point then ?

How is it that as we get older, we have more powerful cars ? Just the insurance rates dropping, seeking more thrills (maturely DJZ 60) or to compensate for the youth slipping away or sadly - weight gain ?

Surely, Sean is merely the Irish derivation of "John", so you're one of us in that case, Sean, me 'ole mucker.

A R15/R17 called a "Johhny-Boy"? <in inspector Cleuso accent>

Je ne le crois pas - quel monceau de merde!

CheerZ,
Kevin. :D

A neighbour of ours had an Jensen SP when I was a kid. They only used it once or twice a month cos it did 8mpg. Christ!!!!
Amazing car though ( at least I think so - I was a kid after all, I even thought an allegro was a cool car till till I started driving....

I thought Mk1 and 2 escort's were the dogs bol****s during the 80's ( until I bought a z)

Hi,
I was offered a very tidy Renault 17 about six months ago, but it would have meant selling the 300ZX!....After a discussion with the wife, we decided to keep with the Z31!.....she hates the Renaults!:D...I'll wait until an interceptor comes along!
Funnily enough, back in 1982, I missed the chance to buy an R 15 and bought a mk2 Capri instead!:D

The average price over here for an R17 TS is 3,000 pounds, that for an R15 or Fuego, 1,400. That for an R12 Gordini 4,700 !

John-boy, je t'assure que c'est vrai !

Sacré bleu - quelle horreur!!!

So better to remain a "John-boy", than a "Johnny-boy" then!! :D

As a kid, I would have loved The 2-seater,Lancia known as the "pilot's car", can't remember the name but it looked like a Delorean, also the Alfa-Romeo spyder. My Dream car,s are: Ford Gt40,Ferrarari 308Gto,Jaguar D& e type,s And I think My 2+2 is an affordable amalganation of my dream selection. DJZ 60.

The Lancia is a Monte Carlo and you need VER small feet to be able to operate the pedals indepentantly ! I drove one belonging to a friend and then it 'melted' on his Dads' drive !
Is it not the 388 GTO? An example owned by the over-paid Irish F1 'driver' Edward Inkvine !

In fact, all your choices have big noses "well, who 'it yours ? Goliaths' big brother ?

Hi,
At least they are available over the water, as you don't see any for sale in England! The 12 was only available as the TL/TS model in the Uk and a friend of mine had a TS with tombstone seats and alloy wheels....it understeered like a pig!...as did most Renaults of that era!
Didn't the 12 become the Dacia Denim?!:D

Hi,
I seem to remember that LJK Setright from Car magazine owned a 'Storm and later on when the mk2 version came out ,they reintroduced the name for a special edition model in a fetching metallic brown colour, with beige leather!:D
