BRE Lookalike

possibly the scariest thraed on the forum due to the count apparently defending sean.

Careful count you are showing cracks in your armour

You are welcome to hold your own opinion about Sean Dezart, but the moment you commit it to writing on this forum it is open to comment from others.

You - I think - could do a bit better if you tried.

Actually if you had noticed I did put a little smiley wink at the end of my original comment about Sean, Which is normally taken as I'm being very tongue in cheek :p.

I do how ever find that Sean always puts cars down that don't fit in to his very narrow view of what is or isn't a good car in his opinion, I think he was being overly negative about the car in question, Yes it may not have had a perfect interior or engine bay, It did how ever look very nice sitting their in that livery.

By the way you'll find that I only have one tool and it's indeed a 10lb club hammer, I don't do subtle I'm afraid ;), Which over the years has got me in all sorts of trouble :D.

Merely offering my opinion on the car and it does look nice sitting there....from 10yds away. Get up close (and photos don't even tell half the story) and it's a cheapie job which I feel is a shame 'cos it could be great !

Narrow view ? Only about East coasters.....:p - I like tastefully done Zs with a classic slant and I hate nice 'paint-jobs' then lift the bonnet and it's awful - like taking a bint home and her make-up falls off to reveal a bloke or a wizened crone ! I hate superficial stuff, like 'tuning' - there you are - my narrow-mindedness.

I wasn't being overly negative about the car - I was being justly negative about the car.

You want to pull mine apart ? You can't do it better than I - it aint perfect but it aint sitting in any showroom and it IS a track-day car.

If you really want a BRE replica for a track-day car, I'll take Stefans' thanks

Get yer lard-arse over here so I can ply you with red and we'll swap tongue in cheek remarks about the world !

I'd love to pop over and talk shit with you mate :D:lol:.

And maybe next year when we've moved back down south and my car's actually working I'll pop over for a little holiday and you can pull my car to bits :lol:.

This is where having a two seater and a wife and daughter starts to fall apart, I wont be able to take them with me lol, My wife wouldn't travel in an old car anyway she's far to posh :(.

I can see your point about the car not being done to a high standard, But as has already been said maybe he ran out of money, The engine bay could always be done at a later date.

When I started building mine I was aiming for perfect paitwork but now I'm not so sure, I think I'd prefer it a little doggy ;), That way I worry eveytime some little scrote walks by.

Rob

Oh don't go all soppy on me now......!

Maybe he did run out of money but who SERIOUSLY has a great paint-scheme without removing at least the glass ? That smacks of starting with not much money in the first place, likewise the engine bay not tocuhed - these are classic (if not aesthetically effective) ways of cutting corners !

That the interior is 'tired' lends authenticity to the car but some details should be attended too - wnat me to list them ?

You don't want doggy paintwork - get the best you can but drive it and accept the stone-chips !

That's where having a two-seater DOES come into its' own, treat you wife to a French weekend, nice hotel, resturants....less expensive here than over there !

And if she's too posh, take your daughter for some quality man-child time and give a break to said wife !

Failing all that - eff 'em, come alone or bring a mate to Le Mans and really have a great time !

I don't really fancy going to le mans it's not really my thing, Will be full of rich spoilt bastards driving around in their posh cars, I think I'd prefer going to Spa for a track day personally, Getting rid of the wife does sound very appealing though :thumbs:.

We all know how hard it is to get hold of good interior panels especially door cards, I've not seen any recovered ones that I really like 100% yet, But some of it could definitely do with a little tidying up for sure.

My thoughts on having the glass removed is that it can create it's own problems, When I did mine the 1/4 lights fell apart and I had to find some good second hand ones, But I agree it makes for a better job that's why I had mine taken out.

Wrong - you've got that around the wrong way. Le Mans isn't like that, not even the Classic. But Spa is garanteed to have posh types or flashy new car types - just look at how much it costs to go around !!!

If your windows fell apart then it was time to change them and doing a minor restoration (ie paint-job) entails replacing rubbers and otehr perishables - you'd expect that from the age of the car - no ?

I had already bought new rubbers and had the second hand set of 1/4 light windows rebuilt, My original ones fell apart because they had rusted away :(, I agree their is only really one way to do the job properly, But that isn't really what owning an old car is all about surely ?, Most people with old cars mend and make do. And if it wasn't for those kind of people their wouldn't be so many still left on our roads for us all to enjoy.

Well, my arse has to speak its' mind again......I don't agree Rob.

If you don't do the job properly.....someone else further down the chain of ownership has to or the car will disappear so, for me, owning an old car is similar to that of a new car - reguler servicing and replace what needs replacing. I've taken it a step further and I wouldn't hesitate to take my Z tomorrow on a 5000 mile road-trip.

I don't mend and make do - I leave that to rusty UK cars worthy of being saved  - welding every other MOT.

Go and have your Irn Bru, think about it and come back and tell me again that my arse is bi-lingual.:D

I've been out all night driving my taxi full of drunks about thinking about your reply and I'm afraid I think you're wrong, Have you even been poor ?, I have and I had to mend and make do just to keep my cars on the road, 25 years ago the only MOT and insurance I had was blank ones bought from people down the local pub :(, My fist Z was not rusty but was quite rough if I'm honest, But I loved it and it went and handled well, Back then I could of never of afforded to do what I'm doing now. And I would of never got my love of Z's if I hadn't owned that old doggy one.

A lot of cars are saved for the future by those people that manage to keep them going on a tight budget when they were not thought of as classics, Now just accept that I'm right and go and drown your sorrows in a few bottles of shit french wine ;):D.

Rob

If the only Z to have is a perfect one then I wouldn't of had mine for the last 12 years. I'd have missed out on a lot of fun.

Same goes for my 350.

Sean, dare you share with us how much your 240 has cost you?

By the way I do love your car and the fact that you use it.

What has cost to do with perfection ? Do you know of a perfect Z - I don't !

But there's a world of difference between a "perfect" Z and running around in an un-MOT'd and un-insured car......

My first Z was rough, I had the opportunity to restore it (but I didn't steal or borrow to do it -I worked effing hard and missed out on holidays to do it, all the time paying a mortgage. I should have sold it when I left the UK in '93 (and kept my Celica) because she only just made it to France in '97 and has since been scrapped BECAUSE I was poor in Holland.

Life's about choices and if someone is running a car beyond their means - it's only the car that suffers.

Listen, a Z isn't a banger - it needs attention and I know I'm harsh here but if you can't give your Z the care she deserves, sell her on.

Don't get me wrong I don't in any way condone not having a current MOT or Insurance, But 25 years ago it was a different time plus I was only young .

But I still think you're wrong on this subject, I guess we will just have to beg to differ .
