Anyone know of this strange 1974 Z?

The last column in Malcolm Yule's article sort of confirms what I was suggesting in post #16 - the white car IS the Manalaty turbo and it is in storage in an Orkney croft...

History, not crusher fodder...now who knows whether Eddie Miller's custom 2+2 survived out of Fourways yard and is tucked away in a lock-up awaiting restoration?
 
Sounds like Gordon Flemming was building a Manalty Turbo replica, that's why he chose to have the rear Mercedes lights done as well.

Just shows you how much tastes have changed, back then people where trying to replicate it and today a few people have been horrified by it.

The only time I saw Eddies car was at Fourways, I think you ought to tell the young 'uns who Eddie was & show a pic of the car coz you never know, someone might have it & not know what it is. Then check the reg with DVLA to see when it was last taxed.
I looked the Bob Gathercole 260 2+2 up & the last time it was taxed was 1986, so that had a short life.

Custom Car Aug 84
Car was a 260Z 2+2 in Guernsey built for Steve Roussel.

It was painted in metalflake Red apparently ( I only have a black and white copy)

It also had a very tall rear wing fitted and metal cill skirts.

Awesome collection you have Mike! Does that mean this is the original Manalty Turbo or could it still mean a copy?

When I get back to work I'll scan the article on the Manalty Turbo from October 1982 in Street Machine.
 
Has to be the same car. All of those lines are right. The upturned teardrop rear spoiler and extended supports, the front end with the mesh spoiler / splitter is exactly what I was trying to recreate. What is that rear light cluster from as well? Looks more like a Mk 4 Cortina than the Z...
 
Could be! I just tried a search on the car but got this page (on google) and bugger all else. Good find G!
 
Jak, my super hero powers at identifying rear lights only extend alas to reading articles...!

It's written in the Street Machine mag which I'll scan on Monday.:)

Will be good to compare the two cars.
 
Just had a quick look at the Manalaty article in Street machine (cant scan it in as it is a not very good photo copy)

The car certainly looks like the car the question was asked about. but If it was the Manalaty Turbo, and I have no reason to doubt this, it had been considerably re-worked around the front end as well as filling in the rear quarter lights and wing supports. The original did not have the Group 5 front wings or bonnet extension.The rear bumper does look like the original as of course do the rear lights.
 
Just had a delve though my drawers:eek:
And found this of the back and I must say it is not the best of viewing angles but shows a lot more detail or the rear

And just to cloud the issue it in yellow without the rear spoiler
I believe this is may be from when Alan Curruthers used to own it
Somewhere I used to have one of his calendars with about 6 photos of the car on it
