air box fitting tips

Your point is........

Possibly that his is fine without a box. Don't forget Allan gets the beast out on very mild days for a few hours a year so there's not as much of a necessity to keep badgers, kittens, swans etc from being sucked into the engine. The rest of the year it's safely tucked away. (It also has one of the sweetest / finest engine notes I have ever heard in my life).

I assume you're saying a box works better then k&n's no matter what - every time?
errr........ as long as it is installed correctly with a cool air duct and filter yep thats why Nissan put one on in the first place

Its been discussed before but for those that were asleep or can't be arsed to figure it out, the Z engine bay is a hot place (in excess of 50 degrees centrigrade EASY) and anything that stops hot air getting in an engine is a very good thing (hot air weakens the mixture, promotes det heat stresses components etc etc) ....FACT. Please provide a tangable explanation as to how K&N's reduce inlet temps to accepatble levels.

One mile or 10000 it still promotes wear

Hey I dont give a shit who buys an airbox...I dont sell them anymore but dont ignore the cold hard science in favour of myth, hyperbole and plain old bolloxs

Now now skiddy you know thats not true.....heeheh. I wanted the induction noise and the looks so was reluctant to buy one. I did. I have the induction noise, no unwanted shit going in to my engine, nice cold air increasing the performance, no carb icing and less wear n tear on the engine too boot.....take a look at my gallery, a pic is there......good investment I think.

lol, for that I suggest you ask the manufactures who make them, but guess the answer would be along the lines of drawing in a filtered air supply.
Please don't say they only draw hot air in as that is, er...... hot air lol

Sure the under bonnet temps are high but then you could equally shield and use cold air supply's, just as you would with your box

Didn't it break your crank ? :D

Maybe it was a little too cold ;)

I quite honestly have NOT noticed any difference between a ciold day, a wet day and a dry, hot day - maybe I'm spoilt or maybe OUR air here is of better quality and with less ambient pollution...... ! I dunno but I haven't !

And Jak should know, he has been in it.

Really this is just a more costly version of mine which cost "nowt" & I've taken the scoop out that feeds the air tube as I don't use them so it is letting more cold air in for the carbs.

Once again it appears that confusion (or a total misunderstanding surrounding the basic principles of the internal combustion engine) reigns....Sean its not specifically about hot or cold days:lol: its about the temperature of air your engine is digesting regardless of the weather.....even on a freezing cold day the engine bay of a Z reaches Sahara like temps (those that have fuel injection and consequently air temp sensors in the inlet, regularly see 5 to 10 degrees above ambient), hot air evaporates fuel vapour, raises the temperature of components, contains proportionately less oxygen, promotes lean mixtures and detonation and is generally bad news....its got nothing to do with how well your deodorant works.

Once again, for what its worth I did back to back tests, with and without airbox on a rolling road, the results were significant, so unless anyone else has imperical data to say the opposite then the jury is dismissed.

There was a set from a Honda Civic as far as I remember for the hoses and the filter. Correct?
