No, What I'm saying is "The condition of the Aus cars look no better than some UK cars so they aren't worth the shipping expence" AND if you put yer specs on & read the post properly, I mention resto projects which mean "RUST" :p

Shame Moggy didn't go to Oz, he could have been our 'scout'!

Interesting find Mr X.

Lets be honest the only thing for this price that this car has going for it are nice wheels and its right hand drive, other than that its got lots of rust problems just waiting to be found on stripdown, better of sticking to a british car that you can at least inspect before buying, its not worth the money, the car needs several thousand spending on it, to replace missing interrior trim or poorly repaired bits.

Which makes me think that some LHD cars from the US might be just as bad & if you are taking someone elses description of it you could have far more expence than having a UK one.

As bad or worse ! You have to have someone who knows look at them - c'mon, you know the rule - it's the same here......you shouldn't just buy off ebay, taking the sellers' word !

Yes, but here you can look for yourself, over there you can't,if you are taking someone elses description of it you could have far more expence than having a UK one.
Just like I said.

AND this yellow one says Good condition.

1972 K DATSUN 240Z 2.4RED SPARES OR REPAIR RUNNER on eBay (end time 17-Feb-10 13:49:08 GMT)

Question is; Which of these is the best project?

My 2 cents:

I would tend to go for something cheaper that I know I will have to fully restore, because even an expensive "good condition" car you just know you're going to have to pull it apart anyway.

However, looking at the detailed pics of the orange 240z on ebay, this is not a bargain at all. It's a runner with an MOT but that's misleading, cos it looks to me like it's going to require the majority of lower panels replacing. A very big project.
EDIT: Correction it doesn't have an MOT. Frankly I reckon this may as well already be in pieces as should be bought as such.

I don't know how much the carbs and the year are worth, but ignoring those 2 assets I wouldn't want to pay more than £1500-£2000 for this car.

Disclaimer: I'm no expert and I'm probably wrong so don't give too much weight to my opinion.

No expert here either, but I tended to agree with your valuation when I first saw it, but obviously several other bidders disagree as its at £3,300 already, although I notice it has slowed down over the last day or 2...

"valuation" in the loosest possible sense. I'm certainly not qualified to give valuations on Z's.

All I know is that this car is not going to be any less trouble than various other cars I've seen advertised. Sean is selling one at £1500 FFS and it 'could' be better than this one (depending on how complete mechanically).

"several other bidders disagree as its at £3,300 already" -- That's because they think it's a car when in fact it's a project.

Also, the value for project cars will always be driven to some extent by value when fully restored. A car that when fully restored is worth £30000 is obviously worth £3000 when in pieces, but before the project value of Z's increases beyond £1500-£2000 ish the price you can reliably get for it when complete will have to be above £10000. Obviously the extent and cost of projects varies, and some are asking up to £30000 for "concourse" Z's (or with history I guess), but how long will it take to find a buyer at that price?

i am surprised at so many negative comments about the uk cars for sale, especially when these cars have not been seen in the flesh.granted the red 1972 240z was very honest with his pictures and it will need work.

It is the same seller probably been messed about by some idiot !! there are plenty of them around.

Point of fact, the buyer was already bidding before the 2nd lot of photos were posted, at £3100. Granted he had ample opportunity to back out and was mad not to do so.

"bodywork excellent for year although slight cosmetic repairs required, very little work needed for roadworthy condition,"

I suspect that's a pretty dubious description and if I felt that an item had been incorrectly described, I wouldn't be handing over any cash either.

EDIT: Plus I notice that on his re-listing he hasn't posted the detailed photos yet.

I make the point again about the laughable phrases 'easy Restoration' and 'needs Cosmetics' being akin to making a statement about 'easy Childbirth'.

A typical E-bay well-short-of-the-truth description......

I notice too that this time round it isn't getting half the interest or bids as it did the 1st time, oh and its gone from a starting price this afternoon of £3,400 to £5,995 this evening....wow if these cars go up at this rate, then what an investment they really are....;)
