240z on car and classic

This bit made me laugh so much beer was bubbling in my nose....

‘’ The discovery of the original (110) Red hiding under the black enabled Spike to confirm the car's identity as genuine, and he remembered it fondly.

Shortly after unearthing the car, it was fully restored from the bare shell up by the well know marque specialist Z-Farm at a cost of over £27,000. Included with the car's documentation and history is a full account of this restoration including invoices and images.’’

oh the red paint! Of course, I remember it well....... nothing iffy about the above at all....

Glyn Jones used to own that car (some of you who’ve been around the club for a long time will know that name). It’s on the Sam register - #41. I think Glyn sold it to knock some other cars off his bucket list (I remember he came to the Samuri Gathering one year with an Ascari, another with a De Tomaso Pantera).

The ad is cringe. All that cut and paste shite about Goertz etc. It’s almost embarrassing to read.

Don’t see anything worth slagging off about the car itself though, given to some degree it is a known quantity and a number of us will have seen it in the metal. Historically, the paint job was distinctive from the usual Sam fare; still the pin-stripping, but the dark red.

Description - agreed.....someone from here ought to help these people with their write-ups or be the first port of call for auction houses, dealers and journalists.

But what reassures me is that the seats immediately confirm in which car I'm sitting.....I do (personally - everyone to their taste) hate customised seat backs - it always comes across as a rather cheesy way of trying to be classy when in fact less is more.

Ask Graham Illsley what he thinks of it Richie...;)

I'm amazed that Le Riche, who bought it from Glyn and do appear to be a reasonably decent classic dealer would use such a shockingly inaccurate advert. This car never went anywhere near the Z farm when it became a Sam (or a Nissen hut in Silverstone for that matter :D) and as Mark N points out the car described is not the car advertised..!

There is a history to the actual car advertised, but Caveat Emptor and all that....

Cheers,

JK

I have to say, I couldn’t square the Z Farm bit with the timeline that I was familiar with re: that car. And all that stuff about it being black, etc. Basically, the entire ad should be treated as the old cliches mixed in with total fabrication. Not exactly the way to honestly sell the car as it is.

Thinking about it, has the paint job changed sometime recently? I remember it being metallic red but the more conventional Sam bronze top - I have a feeling the colour was different and the pin-stripe pattern non-standard.

So, despite being on the Register, we are looking at another so-called “Samuri”?...

I might have been the first to look at this car when Glyn put it up for sale in Summer 2012. He did not present it as a Samuri. As far as I recall he had it fairly recently sprayed in near similar Samuri colours but not quite the same, A sort of "tribute" as some might say. I seem to recall him saying that The z Farm did the spray job. The outside looked shiny but I lifted the carpet to find the passenger floor was rotten and needed to be replaced. I personaly could not find the car ID engraving stamped on the bulkhead. I didn't take up the purchase.
Discussion thread at the time that prompted me to go see the car

So, is this car a tribute but still made it onto the register as SS00041?
Having been reacquainted with certain details of the story, yes, it’s a tribute essentially. Glyn formerly owned CAB139N (subsequently owned by JK and now Rob), and missed it, so decided to build one in a Sam style, with variations like the colour. He never presented it as anything other than a car “in the style of”. However, the current dealers are misrepresenting the car totally. As for the register, well chalk up another example of its dubious value...
