Picked up this car over the weekend in central California. Someone's project that sat for several years after body and paint completed in correct 918 Orange base coat clear coat. So far it looks to be a very nice solid car with little to no rust. Numbers match 2.4L and 4 speed runs good. Looks that complete brake overhaul was done so that is nice. Still needs front and rear bumpers but I do have brackets. Interior needs re-doing but looks complete. Word got out and I already have someone in Europe interested in it. I am going to try to round up missing parts. Not happy with the attempt at ridding the car of all chrome and stainless, need to reverse that for sure. Anyway, happy to find it and haul it back home for resurrection.

Nice.

I don't understand though - only the bumpers and trim around the wing repeaters are missing - easily replaced.

Going east or west of Germany ?

Oh, I see the C pillar badge and door handles - again, easy fix and should look great.

I wish we could just trundle down the road, fish and bring one back.

Sean: yes there are lots of good fishing holes around here but you just gotta have the right bait. LOL
Not sure if it is going yet, still working out details. Who knows, it may fall through but I have to give him a little time to work it out. We'll see.

Just have a good look at the rear quarter/valance area. It appears to be full of filler to me.

I may be wrong but the corner is too sharp and the bumper mounting holes filled?

Just an observation not being critical.

Rob, you are correct that the rear valance has been filled or welded prior to paint. The holes for the bumper mount need to be resurrected which should be easy. I concerned myself with the wheel arch and dog legs, areas that tend to show accident and rust damage. But yes, some liberties were taken around the rear valance area, maybe in preparation for running without a rear bumper?

So my buyer in Europe wants to buy cars that are complete and need little to no work, so I guess I will be ordering parts for this car in the next few weeks.

What do you all think, go for the Orange and black look with black fiberglass bumpers and black Enkie Compe wheels or go for the chrome bumpers from Black Dragon and slot mags????????

Just MY opinion mate :

classic always 'sells' and will always be in fashion.

Engine swaps, ZG arches, big add-ons such as spoilers and blacking out the chrome and s-steel which 'moernises' the car's look will always be undertaken but ultimately limit a car's desirability.....and therefore value.

Looks a nice car & agree with Sean that the classic look is best. Nothing like a nice bit of chrome to set off a car IMO.

Is it my imagination or are the front wipers missing though? I know it supposedly never rains in California but it don't look right with holes!!

It never rains in Southern California, it pours man, it pours lol as Albert Hammond said.

Was damn wet in Macclesfield yesterday Rich but the orange 280Z coped admirably. Had a chance meeting with some Z old boys on your home patch in a run down old mill building. Great lads and Glen was so impressed with the 280 he is seriously considering coming back in from the Jag dark side :)

Hissed it down here too 22mm with strong winds !

Looks like I need to move further south again............

So you've seen Dave Holland's in-progress 240Z then? I've still not been down to the mill to have a look - despite living 5 mins away! I need to get down and have a look-see.

How's Neil doing with the blue one he bought from you?

It was deeply unpleasant although I avoided most of the rain by working from home and only venturing out to take Leila to school. You could've swung by here and given me a look at the 280!

Yes, looking forward to meeting a ' tall bloke with a pony tail ' :D
Had good intentions but ran out of time, as usual flying 48 hour visit and back in Devon later same evening.

280Z is sold to Germany and being collected a week on Sunday so you probably won't get to see it now :( Apparently to get historic reg. over there it must have original wheels  ) so had to make plans to remove Konig Rewinds which had security nuts for which we had no key....blah blah long story where Neil came in.

He is over the moon with the Blue Z ;) Up and running sweetly after just two hours of cleaning out ****** fuel lines and carbs. Think he has plans to re-paint in same dark metallic blue colour which looks nice.

Met mill owner David and his 240Z shell, not much to see on that one yet, painted but still very bare.

Farmer42: correct that the wiper assembly is not on the car but I do have it and will install the wiper motor and wiper arm assembly next week.

All this talk of a blue Z reminds me that I need to get started on this one. Serviceman bought it while stationed in Okinawa Japan per warranty book. Cool story behind it.

Already exported from Japan to the States to Okinawa and back to the States again ? Wow.

Send it over here to complete its 'tour of duty' :) !
