Wheels are a wheel pain...

Hi Duncan,

The wheels & tyres are new as I didnt want to mess with the original Minilites fitted which were in such good condition, so they have been mothballed and stored away.

Ownership has been a very enjoyable so far, thanks once again for your help in the purchase.

I hope you are well.

Jon.

This is the car i saw at the zfarm half a year ago or so, correct? If it is, absolutely beautiful looking car - well, even if it isn't, it's still stunning!!

Thanks for the photos, I need to get some of those wheels (or similar).

lovely car Jon

that stance looks spot on to me,

can i ask what coilover setup your using ?

im trying to workout what to do with mine at the moment

I'm probably going to run Rota RB-R wheels for a while before going for something like Watanabes sometime down the line.

I'll be going for 16x8 size so they will clear my brakes but I'm not sure which offset to get, either +4 or +10. My current wheels are 6x14 -10 so the +4 wheels would give me 39mm less clearance on the inside and they would extend an extra 11mm on the outside. The +10 would give me 45mm less inner clearance and extend an extra 5mm outwards.

If you have a look here its looking like with the +10's the tyres won't extend any further than my current setup: Online Wheel & Tyre Fitment calculator. Offset, Tyre stretch and Rolling Radius calculator

I'll be lowering the car over what it is in the above photo but probably no more than an inch but I'll be running 2 1/4" springs so should have a fair bit of extra clearance over the stock setup. I'm thinking the +10 wheels would be the best option as long as I have enouth space available to loose 45mm from the inside, I'm thinking the +4's extending the wheel 11mm futher on the outside than my current setup may mean it would put the tyre too close to the arch lip.

Which do you think I would be best to go for?

Are you sure the current wheels are -ve 10 offset? ^^ they are factory Nissan wheels and very unlikely that Nissan fitted -ve offset wheels from factory. Look like + 10 offset to me.

What size tyre are you planning on running with the 8J wheels? I have seen 195's through to 245's on 8j wheels and this influence your chosen offset

15" will clear them.
I know they clear Grids but I think grids possibly have more room than RB's. 15's won't clear my rear brakes as although the disc area is slightly smaller than the fronts the caliper is looking like its going to be more bulky. Also having the brakes so close to the wheel isn't as good for cooling.

I hope so, otherwise all my calculations are off and I would need +25 to +30 offset to get the wheels to fit.

What do you think? is this meant to be a minus or not?

I was planning to run 225/45/16's.

i've got 15x7's, 15x8's will leave loads more room. What have you got on the rear that won't fit inside a 15" wheel?

16's will look nice, I was just pointing out that 15's will fit.

I can't say what my rear brake setup will be yet as there is still work being carried out on the final setup, if its all good I'll post details up.

Its looking like Its going to be 310mm two piece rotors with decent sized calipers. Its looking like the calipers will have to be steel as the diameter should be around 350mm, to go alloy calipers with two piece 310mm rotors would mean the diameter would end up around 380mm diameter which I think will only just fit under a 17" wheel.

Just out of interest what offset are you running?

The casting shows 10. Is the dash in front just a hyphen or oes it represent -ve?

My 6x13 wheels with a +10 offset have a backspace of 98mm. My suggestion would be to whip of the existing wheels and measure the backspace. If its 78mm then yes your wheels are indeed -ve 10 offset.

would that make your brakes larger at the rear? My wheels are et20. I'm going to run a 10-13mm hubcentric spacer to get them to sit right. When that day finally comes:eek:

From the above we seem to be an oddity..

15x7J wheels with 265/55/R15 tyres and 0 offset... Are we one of the very few not running stretch tyres, but infact the opposite?

Just left them as they came from the US mind (bar the stored issue so had to replace them for safety as they were a long way past their useby date!). That was a scary day for our savings account!

Anyhow, we had to cut out our original arches as the tyres were cut up every time we even approached a bump, let alone hit one! Rolling them just wasn't enough!

I wish I knew

I would do this if I could but I'm at work and I work away from home and I need the wheels to be ready for when I'm back next.

The rotors themselves are the same size as the front but the caliper is less powerfull but unfortunatly less compact due to the cable mechanism.

A 10mm spacer would make your wheels et10, will this leave them running close to the lip of the arch?

Those wheels are very common in USA and used mainly as upgrades on Datsun 510. Have a read of US forums and you will have your answer;)

So it seems my wheel are +10 not -10 spo my sizing calculations wern't correct for my new wheels.

Does anyone reckon I'll have any problems running 16x8 +10 wheels, I was thinking I could run +12 or +15 but I'm not sure what offsets are available yet. I already seem to have plenty room on the inside so once my 2.25" coilovers are fitted I'll have loads of room. Planning to run 225/45/16 tyres.

For a stock setup I wouldn't plan on running 225's but as I plan to put a lot of power through the tyres shortly I want plenty of rubber. This is just a measure to get me by until I get something like Watanabe R types.
