I have an engine crane that can be loaned for free ,North Surry to east london west essex borders(well rainham) all u need now Grolls is a small van and a postcode if you want to borrow anytime you like

Who uprated and put the engine together then ?

I bought it off a good m8. It was rebuilt with a ( dare I say)spike head etc etc etc. I stripped it to make sure all was ok and that all tolerences were met and no bodge jobs lurking. I hasten to add I have built many hundreds of engines from 5, 125 - 500cc two strokes, in line 4's, flat 4,s, V8's and a couple of V12's etc so i can safely say afer 25 years of being a mechanic the motor was ok. Mileage wise over 21/2 years it covered about 8k.

The key is what made it fail at such a low rpm.....I guess i'll find out soon.....

for the offers of a hoist, the shop round the corner will let me have one for the day delivered cheap.Offers were much appreciated....

So now we're down to a van! (and possibly an engine...) This is getting good. There must be someone with a van reasonably close who can help?

Why ?

This is an ex-AA man - must have some mates left somewhere or even be a member !

His problem is HIS 'van' has lost its' engine......

its a shame about your engine grolls, i hope you get it fixed soon

Grolls, I would be interested to know what broke. Because it went at tickover I would suspect something to do with the cam drive (chain/sprocket).

I think there is more load on the cam when it's turning slowly.

I'm sure you know the following but it still amazes me:

At 6000 rpm (quite common in a Z - I use 7000) the piston rises-stops-falls 100 times per SECOND. Now think of an F1 car (currently limited to 18000) that's 300 revs a second (600 strokes)!

At tickover (say 800 rpm) it does that 13 times a second. Still quicker than Joe Public realizes.

And why head-work is everything (yes, I know someone will come along and say rollocks) but it's all in the head.

Wyn had a nice L28 prepared for sale.......

Deff bottom end thump, just so hard to tell as didnt want to turn it over too much, but did look to see if cam turning and it is, mind you that dont mean the tensioner fell out or broke and cause the pistons to thump a vlave, bend a rod etc.
only time will tell as should be removing on sat.

now funny you say that. I was chatting to Wyn the other day and debating the pro's n con's of bigger and better engines.....ya know, the type that wipes the floor of a froggy 3.1...lol;)

Grolls! Great idea,,ive still got a 9.2 litre Ford Fe series v8 back in Canada ,,we could throw that in , big ol 6:72 blower and all  . ,,,,,oh,,poop,,it weighs more than yur car :lol:;)

power mius weight = speed and the problem is?

Major failure after long tickover is very likely to be linked to prolonged low oil pressure & volume, and possibly involving localised 'hot spots' due to low speed / volume of coolant circulation. It's probably picked up a conrod bearing........

Low oil pump speed, low water pump speed, low wallet contents.
