Hey Riddler don't worry about the sarcastic posts on here, most of us have taken a kicking for various reasons. Whether you are cheesed of still I'm not sure but your thread has evolved into a interesting AND important thread on how to ensure the longevity of the L series motor, so that's all good:thumbs:

I have questioned my father in law who knows about such matters and specifically the product mentioned by you.
His comments................

Hi Craig, these kind of products are solid state fine particles of metals or metallic compounds which can adhere physically to rough surfaces. They can exhibit solid state lubricant properties with surfaces that are in intimate contact. However in systems which require hydrodynamic lubrication they cannot work, eg bearings. These products are really to bung things up which can temporarily improve matters but cannot return mechanical systems back to the design function. To my mind they are unlikely to be a cost effective solution in the long run unless you want to get rid of vehicle immediately. Glyn

I have posed the question to him over engine oil choice for the L series and am waiting for an answer....................

I hope this gives you a brief oversight into these types of products and there uses/pitfalls.

Crikey Steve's back skin......that is about the worst.... forget it I've puked...........
Riddler I feel you were harshly done over tbh.
Educated and experienced men with the information to turn you over may have done it in a more polite way for sure....

Thanks Throttleton for your intelligent, sarcasm-free response, and the info from your father-in-law which made refreshing reading.
I am the first to admit that while I have a good knowledge of classic cars, their history and their values etc I am NOT a mechanic .
But I am an intelligent, well-educated individual who, not unreasonably, takes exception to being branded stupid by those who can barely string a paragraph together in readable English.
I am not instantly taken in by magic 'cure-alls' and only tried the product after reading a great deal of positive comment about it on the net. For £25 it seemed worth a test, and my improved fuel consumption figures and sweeter running cannot be explained by anything else that I can see. That's why I felt other members might be interested - I am not on commission!
And while most would instantly mistrust any product such as this, maybe, just maybe, Amtech have come up with something - I don't know.
I am sure Alexander Fleming had plenty of people scoffing at his suggestion that mould could cure infections in the human body. That mould became known as penicillin.

This forum has turned to into a sorry state. I'm becoming ashamed to be part of it. This guy has posted his honest opinion on a product and has been set upon by the wolves. I fear the posts will dry by people for fear of being treated the same.

I won't be starting threads anymore after the outcome of my last one and will look for a forum with more grow up members.

Well guys, nail in the coffin for me I am afraid, this is a public forum and as such there are swings and roundabouts, post unresearched posts and you gets what you gets, particularly when people can't even be bothered to use the search button and rely on the good nature of the regulars to wipe their *****

Moderators please delete my account.

So long chaps, good luck and all that.

You're mentioning Alexander Fleming and Ametech(correct spelling, not that we don't all make mistakes) in the same post,as if they are on the same footing, i find that highly disrespectful and defamatory to Fleming's legacy. On another footing(soapbox?)Not only are these capitalist marketeer's of **** ripping people off and hiding behind legal jargon we're letting them divide us.........and this is progress?.I want a tongue in cheek smiley.

Steve - even though your announcement comes in response of Johnnymd's post, as I started the thread I feel I should say the following:
It is evident to me from the many posts I have seen from you that you know these cars inside out and have a phenomenal knowledge about them.
There have been times in the past when you have offered helpful suggestions to me - who has very little mechanical knowledge - which have always been appreciated, as well as helping out countless others on the forum with their problems.
Therefore I am sure I speak for other members when I ask you to reconsider your decision, as someone with your knowledge would be a tremendous loss to the forum.
I wish I had never posted about that ruddy additive now, and would not have done so had I thought it would have spiralled into all this!
I simply thought people would be interested in the results I had appeared to have had with it. I accept you think this product is just hocus-pocus in a can, and maybe it is.
If people have different opinions, of course they should be free to express that on a forum - but it can be done without, at the same time, making others with less mechanical know-how feel small. We are all enthusiasts for the same car and should help and encourage each other. And it wasn't really your comments I had taken exception to anyway.
I have never met you in person so only know you through the forum, but I would say please stay with us!!

Obviously I was not comparing Fleming's amazing achievements to those of Ametech! I was just making the general point that sometimes something comes along that no-one believes in and then it turns out to actually work.
I agree this product probably needs to be fully independently tested - and until then nobody will really know if it is in any way beneficial. I'll keep using it in the short term, as I seem to have had good results, but everyone else must make their own decision.
And with that, I hope we can close a thread I am wishing I had never started!

In my post that you quote, I was expressing my feelings about how badly I thought this guy was being treated and I still stand by this. We should all be able to express how we feel about a given subject or post as long as it's done in a considerate way.

It will be a sad day if you leave the forum Steve as you have so much to offer the members.

You're all a bunch of over-sensitive ninnies !

If anyone posts up here, be preapred for debate and discussion and no-one can or should control it - keeping polite is all that is necessary.

Comments against the additive are not accepted and badly taken - then those who have received the comments comment back and these are not accepted then everyone throws their toys outa the pram and says they aint stsicking around here because they've been 'offended'........

Britain was once made of sterner stuff:rolleyes: !

Never mind, get your lawyers out and it's briefs at dawn ! :D

Just shows that it doesn't need me on here to stir it..............btw, one says legible not readable - THAT is correct English  but don't take me too seriously.......

I gotta life too and the moderators can testify that since sometime now (two years), I've tried to behave as it wasn't really appreciated - if you want more action than you have to better support who that does :
it was only the sheep that reacted and the democratic voice was listened to.

It aint because a product cost a lot that it works.......it aint because it's cheap that it's worth a shot.

Expensive whiskey gets you no drunker than cheap....and perhaps the cheaper gives you a bigger hangover.........!

I think your being too hard on yourself

The facts as I see em,

You Have Not

Asked for advice about a product

Tried to endorse a product

Tried to sell something to other forum members

You Have

Tried a product, which in your car, has shown an improvement

Told other people about this

Where's the harm in that?
