Premature cancellation????

Hi,
As members, everyone is entitled to put their point of view forward and ask questions of the committee on this forum....As long as it is done in a calm and civil way!

I agree entirely, and as webmaster/admin of another car club, I would expect it to be done in a civil manner.

Apologies for the rant, but it was necessary at the time.

I am once again calm. Bacardi is ace.

Having just come back from Le Mans where I was camping in a field for six days I can tell you that a field doesn't have to be underwater for it to very quickly become all but impassable to cars. We had rain on and off every day and I saw many cars being pulled out of our field by tractors - and ours was one of the better ones (by a long way). I had to leave the campsite on two occasions and on one I only just (like by a whisker) managed to avoid getting completely stuck in the mud. I'm still pulling mud out of my wheelarches and regretting using my front spoiler as a mud-plough.

Expensive cars, horsepower and nice paintjobs just don't mix with fields and rain. You only need to drive over wet grass a couple of times to transform it into a bog. Sad, and bloody annoying but true.

I'd also add that tents and marquees using regular (ie anything less than industrial-strength) tent-pegs DON'T stay up for long when the wind blows and the only thing holding those pegs in the ground is soft earth!!!

I always have a large bag of 8" nails for Le Mans. I was there camping in 2001and lost the outer sheet to the wind - the rain soaked the rest - 4 inches of water inside with our bedding.

Surprised that Billing were happy to let the event go on (yes, I know££££££) as they've told us in the past not to damage the grass !

I regularly drive off-road on mud - it's all part of road-building and I assure that it isn't easy except to get stuck, even in a FWD vehicle.

Besides, as someone stated - where would you sleep ? In your tents in the mud ?

And when it's time to go and pack up - where do you put the muddy things ? In your cars ?

Think before reacting a little selfishly - this event was more than for a dozen people !

A lot of hard work,& preparation in advance, had been made to
ensure everybody had a great 30th year Z CLUB celebration at
Billing. The logistics in
the pre-organising of Billing, along with the30th year celebrations....has not only disappointed club member's this cancellation has disappointed all who organise the event.
The R.A .F air show got cancelled,& they did not have to answer to anybody? Atleast The club committe had thedecency
to let people know in advance. This is in everybody's interest.
Give the commitee a break, for god's sake! after all they do,& have done for the club,& on a continual basis. The
committee member's sacrifice their time,money & patience
for the good of everyone else & I think they deserve RESPECT
& should be applauded not hacked at!
PRAISE THE Z CLUB & THE Z CLUB DO-ER's:bow:

Well said that person

I for one would not want to turn up with my Zed to find the area if not still underwater but so wet my poor zed suck into the mud. No not one bit. I was indeed looking forward to this event and also did some work for it, however best to do as the committee have done than have people arrive specially from a great distance only to be turned away.

Well done committee for being pro active rather then retro active.

So your a sheep and not a shepherd then???

Sorry Vini, no offence, but woudl you put your hand in the fire because PMAC thought it was a good thing???

And PMAC, why DID you start this thread??

IMO, if you have a problem with the management/commitee of a club, you should take that up privately and not do it publicly, as this way you have just made yourself, and Vini, look like cocks.

I'm guessing none of you have been in touch with Billing lately, but due to health and safety reasons, this event has been cancelled, by staff at billing.

Now, PMAC, Vini, would you like to be the ones that are telling everyone today, perhaps people that are already on ferries or planes, on the way over, that this is now cancelled and they may as well turn around and bugger off home again??????

IMO, the committee made the right decision, and the only decision that they could given the situation that they were in at the time.

I see this thread as simply an opportunity to slag people off for no reason other than spoiling your fun, for which you may or may not have spent time and money organising or preparing for.

I for one, took a whole week, and spent loads of money, getting one of my other cars ready for this weekend, but do I feel bitter??? NO.

Shit happens, get over it.

The right decision was made. and if you can't accept that, at least have the decency to shut the hell up.

To those that supported the decision, thank you.

Suzy, you may as well put me down for committee, as I have no problem with getting things cancelled or putting my point across a straight forward as it is.

Grow up people, and think of others and not just yourselves.

Jeez.

And breathe.....

I will not get involved in any more shit slinging on here. I have been in touch with the committee and you know fook all about what has been going down here so get off your high horse and read all the posts that have been posted. Dont get me started please as I said what happened and what was said was very unfortunate and all appologise have been sent. OH you didnt know? No because I did it via PM. like you have suggested.

Now you can breathe easy.................

If there was anyone who doubted the validity of the descision to cancel this event, then if nothing else good came from this thread at least you now know that it was the right descision to make. I was one of those doubters. I am not now. Sorry for my involvement but if you allow it....Good will always come from bad. And that is obviously the case here.
It has already been said and now I will say it too..

Lets move on please.....................

Premature my arse
Billing have now told other car clubs who were going to Billing this weekend that the fields are unfit to use after last weekends show
so the "AUNTIE WHO WAS WALKING THE DOG" gave the right call then
(information from the datsun owners website)

Be interesting to see if the Land Rover meeting, which takes up the whole site will go ahead the following week then!....If they don't churn up the ground then nothing will!;)
