Your very first car

1973 Celica 1600 GT. Cost more to insure than it did to buy.
Location of the petrol tank filler would fool every petrol station attendant lol.
Pic isnt my car (wish it was...)

My first car (not the actual one but you get the idea)

Blimey - an HA Viva. When did you last see one of those on the road? Not the fastest thing on four wheels but a real little workhorse. I learned to drive in the, 'coke-bottle' styled HB Victor - it was metallic gold with a black vinyl roof as I remember.

My first car was a 1986 1.6 Astra GL 5 Door C814 NRM and I have a photo of that at home somewhere.

I quite liked it but thought it was a bit too 'old man' for me so only had it for a very short time until I swapped it in for the closest thing I could afford to an Audi Quattro, kept the car for ages until I got a company car in 94/95 and then sold it, and I new as soon as it went I'd regret it.

I'd buy it back today if it still existed which I dont think it does, last taxed in 2000 :(

You guys have lived a 'charmed life' - I now know why you react to my 'basic' approach to motoring.

More in your level of expectation Rob - my 100E Anglia is sadly the only significant car I've owned without any photographic evidence.
Like this but not as shiny:

Had black "go-faster stripes", "rallye" bucket seat covers and a triple instrument pod on top of the dashboard. None of this helped the woeful performance, three speed magic wand gearbox and vacuum wipers which went to a standstill going up hills...

Cost a summer holiday's pay as a deckchair attendant on Swansea beach (£55) and was the first student owned car ever at my school in my final sixth form year.
If I still had it now it would have looked like this:

More serious than my first car was my second one - one of these:

Citroen AX GT, exactly like the above. French, made of tin foil, interior trim discordantly squeaked like an orchestra warming up, but it went like the clappers and was extremely fun to chuck about.

Once managed Acton in West London to Derby in 90 mins in that car...

(Oh the days before the "managed motorways" cameras).

There are hardly any left now. I'd have one as a runabout if a decent example presented itself nearby for the right price.

My dad's first car was an 100E - but it was the cheaper Ford Popular. Still remember that 2-yard long gear stick!

Mike, my second car was a 1958 100E, an Anglia version. 1172 Side valve 3 speed.

Dad and I bought a salvage 107E Prefect and put the engine (OHV 105E), gearbox (4 speed) and back axle (Hypoid) into mine. However I still had the vacuum wipers! To put the engine in we had to cut the bulkhead (from around the back of the engine and gearbox) and put it into mine - gutter bolts and rubber strip (for sealing) were used!

To think that those cars don't need MoT's now!

My 100E (£40) was a massive upgrade from my first! More to come.

Well here we go, before and after picture. Its a 1972 Army Lightweight Air transportable Landrover (never could figure out how it ended on a V plate). Got it the Easter of 86 and spent the summer rebuilding it. A year after we put a Rover P6 V8 which had a 10.5 to 1 compression ratio. To say it zipped along would be an understatement. Like most people I just wish I had never sold it. Tried to trace it a few years ago to see if I could get it back but the DVLA has a permanent export marker against it, bummer!!

I have to admit the second picture is pre V8 and the silver foil is wrapped round a very large oil cooler.

No pictures I am afraid - but the first car I had was a police pale blue 3 door 1100L mk3 escort. Fastest car I ever had. Even the police moved over once..........first car I ever crashed though was my mums. She still tells me off about that one...........

Those arches look a bit spacious

Yes they do look dire, almost as bad as an S30 does with steel wheels and hubcaps.

No amount of waffle about originality, matching serial numbers or whatever can take the place of a decent set of alloys

Opel Manta 1.6 was my first car. not the actual one above but same year and colour. sadly long gone to the scrapyard in the sky. the roof got smashed in when some slates fell off the house during a storm:(

The GTE versions of those used to fly!!!!!

I used to have the Mk 1 which I thought looked better but it only had the underpowered 8 valve

Once again not mine (I had white 6 spokes)

Agree completely - the angles somehow made it "harder" more aggressive looking!

Nice!!! Did you wear the obligatory white socks to go with it!? ;) I miss wearing white socks - always thought they were cool
