You had the finger on the SKUD button anyway it is hopeless. Good thing I keep mine on my PATRIOT battery!:D

- Over here, the only Rover with a resale value have a beemer in it

- If the DS wasn't a good car, then what is?

- The 2CH IS CLEVER, it's light, inexpensive to build and to run. It was an efficient way to get out of WWAR2 and its shortage of raw material ;) Remember, no steel, no Aluminium, no petrol... It took a lot of engineering to achieve that.

- What is the name of your planet again? On ours, there is no way you could confuse a car with a super car, and nobody would even dare it! I just don’t see a link there, sorry. But if you can buy a super car on a 2ch budget, please don’t keep it for yourself; tell me how to do it.:D

Bit like the landrover then.... oh no sorry they have a resale value

Are you saying that classic Citroen's don't have a resale value? If you are then I think you have got your blinkers on.

The DS is exotic, inovative... but was it good.... not on your life.

1000 would beg to differ with you on that, as a matter of fact it was good. Good enough to get the product of the century Award, beating off competition from the Boeing 747, the Apple Macintosh, the Baygen wind-up radio, the Bic Biro and the lunar landing module to win the accolade. And guess what, the award was issued by Britain.

dont confuse clever with functional

True, the 2CV is both clever and functional!

As regards Frances contribution to the motoring world, there is no doubt that there has been significant contributuion (not neccasarily positive), my point is any company who is capable of producing 2CV's and cotton wool suspension systems has lost their way (in the performance and handling world).

I am glad that this isn't an Anti-French rant and is mearly directed at Citroen.

I Didnt refer to classic Citroens at all (some people will buy anything though) I was refering to the second hand market on used cars -- 2 very differant things:rolleyes:

Yep I know crazy isnt it, in 1981 Joe Dolce kept Vienna from being number one - (once again award by British people) didnt make it a good record though.:p

No sorry you are so not right there... 2 lights on a bit of conduit with a big lever to dip them isnt clever its lazy engineering:mad:
2 deck chairs for seats isnt clever its dangerous.

Good point but there were many countries in the same boat after the war but they didnt resort to engineering heresy.

Italy (Lancias, Alfas)
Britain (Aston, Healey, Morris, Sunbeam, Rootes)
US (GM, Chrysler, Fo*d)
Japan (Datsun/Nissan, Toyota)

All made technically better cars than the deux chevaux

Goodness even the "bad guys" made a better peoples car:D

Guys, I love the French, they are a wonderful and sensitive nation, protective of their art, culture and history..... some of my best friends are French:D I just dislike .. no wrong word... detest Citroens...might have something to do with a girlfreind dumping me because I only had a Yamaha FS1E and cool Phil had a "Car"... well a 2CV anyway.

Maybe we should look at a list of the worlds supercars for guidance ...... and see where Citroen is

The DS is not exotic, it was the Ford Mondeo of its' time and THAT's why is was so good - loaded as it was with innovation !

Drive a C5 with the third generation suspension and tell me it doesn't handle !!!

Why do the Brits always go back to supercars ? Small volume manufacturers - wonderful cars but hardly a dent in world production or even quality !

If the French still have their industry, albeit sub-contracting via other Eureopean countries, they're way ahead of the UK - we gave ours away like most things !
Yeah, a good part of motorsport is still, in the main based in the UK - gotta be something to cling to eh ? ;) Is that Motorsport purely F1 ? If so, although it represents big budgets and 'the pinnacle' of motor-racing, look at the global picture and Britain is still a little player.

Don't you just hate it when your own view falls fairly and squarely between two camps in an argument .... sorry ..... debate.

In my humble opinion the early DS cars are a work of art, beautiful, pioneering and elegant. Does that make them good cars ? That entirely depends on your standpopint but not necessarily.

2CV ???? Ugly, cheap, nasty but undisputably delivered what it was supposed to. (Why would ANYONE want to drive a basket of eggs over a field ? Why not go to Sainsbury like we do in the civilised world). In fact, I imagine they are a cult car and quite good fun if you are into that sort of thing.

Like Steve I am not a great fan of French cars but when there is a good one it is terrific (Renault Alpine etc). I loved the first R5 Turbo with the wide arches and begrudgingly, I loved the Fuego when it came out. (I know, I know)

Now for those of you that have ever heard of Godier-Genoud........

They are PROPER bike engineers :D

However, the flip side is Aston Martin, Jaguar, TVR, Morgan et al. Mainly all defunct or foreign owned now but by 'eck in their day .......

The big money now is to export the 2CVs to California - they love 'em and pay mega bucks, they've taken over where the Beetle conv. left off ! And they don't care that they drink 4 star and lots of it :) !

Why not yellow - but the car is another French abomination ! I do still think that the proportions of the longer 260z 2+2 can make a GTO replica look more authentic.................and of course that would save another 2 seater Z from being cut up !!!!! Ducks to avoid low-Grolls and DJ rugby tackles.........
