what events do you want

Thanks mike on need to apologize as these things happen. Sorry if you feel that I was having a go at you in some way, that was not my intention. i still do not agree not the drag racing, after having done rallying and circuit racing i find it a bit tame, but only at the standard car level. But that is my option. As for cost i will agree on that it is a cheep way of getting in to motor sport. As for damage to the car i have seen many cars go bang on the drag strip in one way or anther. If you go at a sensible pace on a track you shod not damage your car in fact you my learn the limits of your car. And it my help you control the car better on the road. Unfortunately not all roads are strait, there will always be a corner but not on a drag strip. As for response time off the line you need that too in circuit racing if you don’t get off the line well that could mean the difference between winning and loosing.
Many thanks Sid

Isnt Bio-diversity a wonderful thing???
I cannot comment with any authority on drag racing as I have never been to one! However that is set to change on Oct 12 as I am making the trip south to Santa Pod. So lookout for a ratty old blue 240Z crawling south on the M1 towards Wellingborough, driven by an equally old and often ratty driver!
PS I am only coming to watch!

If an engine goes bang on the strip in a road car, it's living on borrowed time on the street anyway! Clutches may suffer, but you need a lot of additional horsepower to damage much else!

pmac - bring your driving licence and sample the strip! We don't want twenty static exhibits!

Would anyone be interested in a meet in East kent? I know there are more Z's around here than mine, I've heard the rumours and seen them lurking in side streets,so lets unleash them on the Kent countryside!

Contact Steve Lack, Kent Local Group, and ask him when his next meeting is planned for.

Neil,

I am always up for a local meeting .. whereabouts are you?

I'm in Maidstone, but I'm often in Deal too ... so anywhere in East Kent suits me .. and I know a few more too.

Be interested to hear what Steve Lack has to say ...

If we're going to get something organised, we should move it to the proper meetings and events forum really.

CheerZ,
JB.

Hi John,
I'm in Deal. I would also be interested to here from Steve, But if he is busy there is always the meetings forum as you said, Even a mid week meet would suit me as I work strange shifts and struggle to make rigid Sunday meets.

OK Neil,

Let me know how you get on with Steve and then if that's not going to yield anything in the near future, let's set a date that will fit around your shift - evening meets fine with me too - country pub nr. Deal/Sandwich perhaps? Make it a real East-Kent affair.

We can then post that date in the events forum, and see what it brings - I'm sure I know at least one other person who'll make it along - although wether she'll have her Z or not is a differnent matter .

CheerZ,
JB.

Now then , lets clear this up :-DRAD RACING,(whats the point ) Lets stick to Production/std ,semi modified cars.Well with circuit racing usually you have anything from 5 - 15 lap races, at a club level so if your Drag start off the line is not good well , if you have a competative car and you know the quick way round a circuit, then you have time to make it up , 10-15 Minutes etc,,,,but with Drag racing the whole point is the start ,the traction ,(thats why there are special suspension set ups for just that reason to get the launch just right, not for getting burnouts if you want sticky hot tyres) and then head down the strip,,,, oh and you have only Seconds to get it right ,one of the skills needed is the launch, wheelspin looks good for the crowd , but useless for the traction you need to move forward quicker than the guy next to you (don`t for get the clock ticking).....Once you have launched from stage ,your off ,the gear changing now is crucial ,questions arise,You must know your peak torque of your engine at what RPM, so you change gear at that point to the next gear and so on,otherwise you loose time those precious seconds .Your car can have loads of BHP but if the BHP/torque curve goes off after 4500RPM whats the point in reving the nutts out of your engine past that, this is where engines can go BANG!!!!,,,,thats what you will here, you would be better to change gear back into the revs where the torque is because its the torque that you need to race with .Especially with small engined turbo cars,,,,scoobys are a good example very fast but only in a certain torque/rpm band once you have revved through that its gone! you must change gear at the right moment(rpm).....£1000,s are spent getting it right shift lights electronic /air shifters some get it wrong and engines blow, thats racing , circuit racing is no different,,,but when you do get it right ,,,off the line just as the green comes on (not amber like some go)easy not to much throttle a bit of wheels spin but you`ve got traction feed the power in ,and now its foot hard down through the revs ,changing gear,,, to the 1/4 mile tower and you look down as you ease off at your speed and as the andenalin is pumping ,it was a good run ...Thats Drag racing , you could do burn outs or use Nitrous , etc,but there just the things you do after you have caught the bug,,,,So as we were saying any motor sport can look/be borring so don`t watch it do it.Circuit racing is not cheap , even with track days ,but drag racing can be if you use your std car , it wont blow up unless you, over rev it, (or lack of maintenance) and all you need is you a helmet ,thats a good idea and your car and a bit of knowledge , like your spec sheet for the engine in your car(hand book specifacations etc and look for the peak torque at what RPM) and then go racing , and if you don`t come back with a grin on your face then try flower arranging.....This is One day , one small payment and you never know it just might be a very enjoyable different memory to look back on, or catch the bug !!!!

So, you'll be at the final round of the Z Club Challenge and Japanese Performance Day on Sunday??

12th October - Santa Pod Raceway. The Z Club have a designated car space for at least 20 cars. I have just received screen stickers from the Pod (bit late in the day). If anyone is definitely going and wants to be directed through to the right space, ring me very quickly so I can post you one. Otherwise, you may get directed elsewhere and have to find me on the day to get your sticker!

Don't forget your driving licence to sign on; crash helmets only required for convertibles, "very quick" cars and proper race cars.

Off course Mike,,, i`ll be there ,i`ll come and find you ,my son wants to experience going down the strip so it will be good fun for him, see you there

Ooh, I love discussions like this and me too Steve, I'm stunned to see Pete taking a public line !

Dear members,
Yes, you pay your membership fee, you get your sticker, card and magazines (maybe you even get your new member pack with the details of your local club rep and even better, they give you a call and invite you to the next outing???). What else ? Oh yeah, a website forum. All these are just mediums to allow you to move up to the next stage - PARTICIPATION !
This could be taking the RESPONSIBILITY to find out what is happening near and / or far or going further and offering to help with the club. Either way, it uses COMMUNICATION with and RESPECT of those who are already there.

YOUR club is just a means to meet up, how far down that road you want to go is up to you !

If I've upset anyone...tough !

I won't justify my right to state all this, if you weren't there, you need to react !

Good to see everyone who got along to Japanese Performance Day at Santa Pod. Amazed how much attention our 240 and 260 got - lots of interest in the "history" as so few old cars there. Peter Mac - good to meet you at last.
