What did you do to your Z this week?

Went tonight to pick the car up, this was the best my good friend and mechanic could do. To make it right will take more time and money and all but one of the fittings need new holes made and all the fittings are in the right place at the moment, The reason is clear to see why, but i am not saying anything more. Please any sensible and honest words would really help and I am not stirring up things, feeling very sad and I am struggling to comprehend and deal with what has occurred.
Kind Regards
Kev

What you are looking at is £625 worth and £200 in labour to end up with that monstrosity, No Matt Everything will need new holes they are not fit for purpose and have been very poorly made i was told they need millimetres to fit more like inches but surprise, surprise my old ones (original)bought from Moggy fit perfectly what is that telling us?? Maybe my doors are wrong lol !! Pretty embarrassing and ashamed to have them spoil a nice car, Apparently they are " if you need 1 new pair of car door is alredy available. Attention these panel are best in market no other replica available in USA or other place so the advert says really................ people have been talking about libel well that statement WILL be used as legal evidence as it is one hell of a lie. Guess i will have to work even harder to pay more money to either fix them or buy some REAL ones and some people wondered what all the fuss was about, I ask all of YOU would you be happy with this quality???????

FYI new Datsun parts in Canada cost $650 + $199 shipping and 4.5 % import duty +20% vat total £869 depending on exchange rates against £625 +£200 labour for what i got, bet they don't need hours to fit but if someone can tell me otherwise ? Cannot sell the Z looking like this, its things like this that make you wonder is it all worth it.

I would think it all depends on what cards you got from Moggy? Don't suppose you have pictures of them? I know in the uk there are 3 variants of door from 240 to 260 that I'm aware of.

Looks like the door card is sitting 10mm to 15mm too far forward.
Do the holes for the handles line up in that position?

The car is at home in garage and i am at work and i cannot afford to have them taken off every minute to check if my doors are wrong or cards the garage is 36 miles from me in Peterborough so hard to plan things he has had it for a week and he has a lot of other work to do Alex my friend and mechanic who knows Z's his Dad has owned one for years thinks its not the doors.

Having now looked at your door a little my closely I'm not sure they are any different to mine after all. Think the flash in your picture was just hiding one of the door profiles.

I can understand your frustration, I had a similar problem with SS Harrington Bumpers a few years back and the front is still hung up in the garage. I didn't get anywhere with them either, they just said they had no other complaints. However when I quizzed people on here some had the same issue and either lived with it or adjusted the bumper to fit. I wasn't quite willing to do that and just went back to useing my chrome one. The back SS one fits absolutely fine but I'm always on the lookout for good condition original end pieces as I picked up a new centre section so I can replace and go back to chrome.

Kev I’m in Stansted and can come up to Peterborough and try and suss it out for you,Was it you I bought the alternator up to and fitted it to make sure it worked last year I think it might’ve been

Some OEM door panel reference pics for you. Hope they might help:

Just wrote out a long explanation of the above, and then lost it! Disappeared!

Anyway, the above are three different OEM door trim panels dating from around 1971/72. The shape of the vinyl trim and the gluing around the inside of the top edge are pretty much how many of them were when they left the factory. The shape of the top rear edge comes from the steel pressing underneath it, so if that's not right then they won't fit very well.

The door trims initially just 'hang' on the top edge of the inner door pressing, just hooking over it. So there's not much vertical adjustment to be had, but quite a bit more horizontally. The horizontal movement is limited by the holes in the door trim needing to line up with the window winder, inner door handle and armrest/grab handle, but there IS some wiggle room.

The door trim clips sit offset in their holes in the door trim hardboard, so they can be 'clocked' somewhat in order to line up with the corresponding holes in the door pressing.

Yours do seem - as has been mentioned - to be sitting a little bit further forward than they should be.

I might pop down to the garages and see if I can take some more reference shots of cars with panels installed, and car doors without trims/rubbers on them. Stand by...

Exciting trip out at lunch to pick up this little lot:

Lots of unpacking to do and rebagging by part, application, etc. I dropped off a couple more things when I collected these, but soon I’ll have all nuts, bolts, and hardware items replated (in fact, with hundreds to spare, as I had a lot from my ex-pmac OEM bolt supply done too).
