If you are serious about getting a TVR Don, I would join the TVR club and go to a few meetings. Then you will really learn the ins and outs of these cars rather then us saying some bloke i new had one and it was duff etc.. :D :D

Good luck mate, they sure do sound like the dogs B**LCKS though!!

the renault engined 350Z
Jeremy Clarkson has a lot to answer for - one incorrect remark in a poor and ill-informed report of a 350Z on Top Gear and it becomes public knowledge. Agreed - the engine was used by Renault in a U.K. car before it was known widely over here, but it is, nevertheless, a Nissan engine primarily.

One of my friends has run TVRs for years and tells me that the "reliability" issues are a myth.

According to Jason (not me, I have never had a TVR) they like to be driven and HARD - if you leave them in the garage for weeks at a time then try to use them for a Sunday afternoon potter they will complain.

In all my years at IBM he had a succession of Griffith 500s and a Cerbera 4.5 and used them every day to do a sales job with so he was up and down the motorway all day long.

My own view because I love TVRs is that the Griffith could be made into anything...... no listen....

Try Ivory white, ox blood leather and wire wheels for a real 60s feel all the way through to painting them like something from the fast and the furious...

The shape lends itself to being done in loads of different ways, all of which would look great.

What ever they look like they will always sound like sex on wheels

Well spotted, publicly known and factual - my car is in build, however, saying I am talking a car build is total bollocks, if you have seen my shell now it has been dipped (which you may not have done because it is not at the workshop) you would realise the amount of time, effort and money being poured into it. What about the F1 flanges and drive shafts ? What about new front and rear bumpers ? What about the new panels ? What about anything that frankly you know diddly shit about because you did not have the courtesy to ask before you attacked ? I have already spent way more money on bits for this build than the highest dealer price for a mint 240 in any of the classic mags.

Tell me ANY car that has ANY engine in it before it is painted ? Oh.... unless you are bodging together an old nail that is.

By all means attack the idea of a V8, that is open for discussion, debate, ridicule or whatever but I take offense at being attacked personally from someone that does not know anything about me or what I am doing. Ask first THEN attack if you see fit but at least have the relevant information before your mouth goes into gear

:eek::eek::eek: eek ! Only teasing :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Yes it was Zhead101, but you and Zedhead260, have also been waffling about v8, and so forth for a while, have you not.

You wont get moderated for standing up for youreslf, provided the content isnt too rude and personal, and from what ive read your pretty much near the mark,. (reference your comments "diddly shit" and "mouth goes into gear").
Its too easy to provoke anti feeling with the typing finger, ive been there, take care.

Thanks to everyone for commenting on TVR chimearas, I will be indeed be test driving one in the next few days/weeks, as you MrG, its best to get a feeling from experience.
Looks increasingly like the 240 is taking over my life at the moment, back and fro to workshops soon, re, paint problems, and new 5speed gearbox to replace the awful auto.
Don.

Sorry Don.

I've just looked at this thread from the start, it all started to go adrift on page 2 where it turned into a TVR v V8Z discussion.

You can report a thread if it goes off course.

"I have already spent way more money on bits for this build than the highest dealer price for a mint 240 in any of the classic mags" - errr, so what ?

What has money got to do with this ? I thoght we were talking personal taste and experience here, not how many new bitz and expensive work has been/is going to be done on a particuler car !
