The "other car" blues.......

Or how about a Vauxhall Signum?....A 'posher' 4 seater type of Vectra with optional built in sat nav and rear fridge on some models! Available as a 1.8 petrol through 2.0 turbo, plus petrol and tdi V6 3.0 models.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG my poor eyes!!!!!:D

Jez-you're quite right, it even has a baby seat but can't bring myself to part with near on 4 grand for one....

Doesn't have to be an estate just practical...

And agreed on 5 series/A4-just too common....

Meh...

You can buy Audi and BMW estates quite cheaply...But who wants to look like every other mug on the road? ;)
A lexus GS300 or LS400 might be an alternative executive choice!

Looked at LS400=slightly terrified if something goes wrong.....nice cars to be in though-good shout again....you're winning so far Jez!

A mate of mine wants to buy my Surf and I've been looking at a soarer or aristo to replace it.

Mind you, I've been looking at what to do with the engine a few months down the line. I cant bring mtself to get rid of the surf though as its so practical.

best family car i owned , ultra reliable, economical ,quiet , more air bags than a bouncy castle ..loads of cubby holes and storage ,very comfortable , good standard sound system ................Honda CRV

I am a fan of the3 Volvo V70 T5 great storage looks understated and in standard trim has around 250bhp dependant on model yr. And you can easily boost the power for around a 1k to 300bhp with ease. a cue car in my experience.

Having been through this with my kids imho reliability is imperative followed by low costs of running. Okay, not the most exciting choice here but should meet most of your requirements (parking/convenience/not likely to get pinched ..).
TOYOTA Corolla 1.6 GS 1998 (S reg), Hatchback £1,495 61,000 miles Manual 1.6L Petrol 5 Doors, Manual 5 speed, Hatchback, Petrol, 61,000 miles, Red, MOT-09-2010. Full Service History, Power Steering, Remote Central Lock, Electric windows, ABS, Air conditioning..
… and will save you money to spend on the Z.

Then again going further back I remember a rather good
MG Maestro 2.0 Efi (or Turbo even if one could be found) - 4 doors, plenty of boot space. I seem to remember even reliability was okay.
Cheers

Bluebird Hatchback, comfy, spacious, and plenty of room for a pram in the boot.
Nissan reliability too. Fairly cheap to insure as well.
Works for me :)

Nice 80's retro cool

I'm gonna sound square here but your quest to "not look like the others on the road" puts you fairly and squarely with just about everyone doing the same thing.

You've got an interesting car already so with a baby, think practical, think large door openings and not too low so that you and/or wife don't break your backs putting baby into babys' seat - sometimes even a three-door hatch is better because you can crouch in facing the seat with the front seat tilted forward and strap the sod in !

So, go for height, leg-room and large doors or low-ish but big doors and don't forget the boot - puschair, fold-up bed, three bags of whatever your wife thinks she might need four of whilst away for just one night.........

A Nissan Prairie !

Hmmmmmmm...........

Hit with a fairly large tax bill today so that Corolla option looking more and more likely....!

Sean-agreed that looking different is already taken care of-just would like something that my heart doesn't sink every time I have to drive it. My Z is at my Ma's over the winter simply because I have to rent a garage space in London for it which is big bucks every month so I left wanting for 4 months of the year...

Maybe the trailer would be best for everyone....as a Yorkshire Man I shall be sending the little lad up tut chimney's soon, that'll earn a few extra bob..!

You can pick up a SAAB 9-3 hatchback from 1K, with a large boot, front and side airbags and abs all as standard....something you don't get on many older cars!

my other car is a 02 mondeo 1.8,does the job and not very flash at all !!!!!!!!

In the end I bought this.........

Mercedes 190E 1990 2.6

Had it about 3 months now-quite the opposite to the Z but similar in it's straight sixness...

very comfy indeed...also quite quick when it needs to be...

thanks for all the tips and idea's...much appreciated!:driving:

(yes, this is the actual car.....)

One of my favourite films of all time. When he takes the guy to the airport... Soundtrack fab too. Awesome! My mate had a 190E with electric sunroof but wind-dy down windows and manual. Twat.
