The big question

Okies this is be sparked by a conversation on another forum by someone who's of the opinion that the jap car sceen didn't start till 1999 after the 'fast and furious' films came out

And

that the jap car sceen has and is only about imports so uk spec jap cars are not really part or have never been part of the jap car sceen.

So does any one hold to those 2 idea's that the jap car sceen didn't even exist till 1999 and it's only about Jap imports

Where were you children back in 1992 at Goodwood ?

All the clubs were present with the exception of the Mazda MX-5s, Honda came down, Nissan were there with their press office and a selection of show cars - there were over a hundred Zs and ZXs, R32s were there and out on the track too.

I think that there were over 300 Jap cars in all including Suzuki Cappacinos, Mitsubishis, a Subaru, Honda Beats.......

Sean is right, I have been to a variety of events many of them prior to 92' and seem to remember a variety of Jap cars about, not always in quantity but they were there. Maybe us oldies have a use after all, remembering stuff like this.

yeah that's what I've been arguing as I've been involved myself since I was 15years old that's now 30years in the jap car sceen however this certain individual will not believe there was a jap car sceen prior to 1999:rofl::rofl::lol:

This is because he didn't start importing jap cars till 1999 and he says it's all about jap imports errr mmmm no I don't think so as I remember it being about Jap Cars which included imports and UK spec

Thanks guys I knew I wasn't going insane and just imaged it all;)

I remember Goodwood in 92 I didn't have a jap car but was taken to see it all by my friend's dad :D

......and The Z Club was founded in.......1976 - some 23 years before your bod claims the Jap. car scene began !

Without wanting to bragg too much (not) - The Z Club was the first, the largest and most active Japanese car club and I sincerely believe is still the principle club with the best forum, the best magazine, the best ON-LINE magazine and the most varied selection of models and modified cars !

The Z Club was founded not on emails and forums but real-live live voice speech, on those new-fangled telephones, a lot of face to face but also through some old-fashioned things called reguler newsletters !

People didn't help and serve others because they thought that they could sell a car or parts - they did it because they love these cars and most of the people drving them are great - they certainly had to be special to drive Jap. cars before the scene became popular in the mid-nineties !

Don't forget the racing (HSCC) Datsuns that proved to be a thorn in everyones' sides until finally winning not only their classes but overall - a tremendous acheivement in evolution over some spectaculer, varied and more modern competition !

You know me Steve I already have pointed out he's completely wrong. It's Blitz over on my other forum.

Even Prof's pointed out there were jap car club's around ie The rx7 club which is now part of Mazda Rotory Club and their big Brooklands meet's.

But he still insists it's all about importing and that as far as he's concerned didn't happen till 1999 oh and he's been doing it for 10years.

As I said just because he's only been importing jap metal for the past 10years doesn't mean there was no jap car sceen in the uk before then.

He's convinced the only jap car sceen in the uk is really the 'Import' sceen and it started in 1999 what an idot :lol::lol:

just makes me cross when someone trys to say that the only jap sceen in the uk was started in 1999 due to the fast and furious films.

That the guys thinks he know's every thing about the sceen and he's only been in it for the past 10years.

we all know it was here before then and that in 99 there was a huge snowballing of interest:)

And it bloody well annoys me that he thinks unless it's an import it has nothing to do with the jap car sceen.

Pretty much ignores the heritage of the zed then. Strange coincidence that the scene started the day he got into it. Arrogant muppet IMO. I suppose the scene will stop the day he loses interest too.

Where does he think came the influence for the film ? Check out how long THAT scene was around and what cars they were running before turbos......

BTW, I think it was the MR2 Drivers' Club that didn't reply to us back in '92 - at that time, there wasn't an MX-5 club but there was an RX-7 owners club !

What a bunch of BS! I cant speak for the UK as I only arrived in 2000, but in California the Jap car scene was huge as far back as 1976. Used to have loads of fun in my friends Datsun 510, baiting much larger American cars and killing them (especially in the twisties). :D

A bit like saying rock music began with Oasis.

Yes maybe the Jap Scene as the youth culture know it to be, began with Fast and Furious but hopefully a generation on those people will be having the same conversation with their offspring, who think it all started with something that was geared to their generation

If you were not alive to live it, you believe what you see is unique.

Its not just the Jap scene its anything in life.

You are so right! If he/she/it didn't do it it didn't happen, and if it did they did first and better and the earth is flat, the moon landings didn't happen etc, blah, blah and so on. As a former Royal Marine may I offer my services...I'll slap him/her/it for you!

I like it ... but have to state I think they lost it a bit when coming to the rear end. Starts all edgy with nice clear sharp lines and then looks like it melted at the back with bulbous curves.

Cheers

Import scene, lol

It was only a half serious offer (well maybe). However, Blitz's banging on about the import scene misses an important point. Simply put, all jap cars prior to the building of a car plant here (Sunderland i think ?) were - wait for it......Imports!! As are most european and other - wait for it......foreign Imports. And this was before all those films.

Ah, hang on, I forgot something import-ant (sorry about that), Blitz didn't import them, so it couldn't have happened - could it?

Maybe I should return to my world of physchotropic substances, after all I must be dreaming it all and the earth really is flat.
