Hi,

Does anybody know if an S13 Silvia gearbox (ca18det) will work in a 260Z?
I guess the bell housing will need changing at least?

Regards
Phil

240sx.... [emoji849]
There's also good threads covering it on hybridz.org

I've got an s13 box in mine.

I did a bit my homeworks to compare Silvia gearboxes :)

I have collected (French market cars... don’t know if there is an impact)
Z31 (more or less a s13)
S14
S14a (especially oil baffle)
And opening them to check what I read on worldwide web [emoji12]

There are different s13 along years (mainly forks and synchronised reverse gear)

s14 is different and s14a as latest is evolution of s14 brings lubrification inhancement; bearings wear seals from s14 version.

So... as summary, youngest is the best

Also gear ratios are different.
S13 first and second gears are said to be shorter than s14 (checking in progress)... but 5th is very long on s14 (more or less as on “close ratio” 280zx)

When I will have everything consolidated, I will share here on forum

But any of them are better than 71A & 71B (strength and shifting) except gear ratios for which our factory 5speeds for 240z & 260z are... definitively the best :)

Here s14a with oil baffle in the bottom under the gears and sealed bearings :

You need a shorted drive shaft, a modified crossmember and a machined bell housing for L engine
