Should I develop an interest for Z's?

Just don't tart it up with beige leather like it was some footballers' wifes' car..............

He has a point though - restoring a 260Z 2+2 isn't more expensive than a 240 !

You forgot to mention the blue carpet Sean.......unlike you to make a mistake..:eek: oh and its no cheaper either......plus the upholstry of the rear seat of course..:D

There is one big upside to all of this;

I can take 2 people's camping gear, a barbie, a few crates of beer, charcoal, food and lots more plus a passenger......now what would Le Mans do with out a 2+2...oh yea, starve and stay sober, not to mention taking on two TVR's on the way down and wiping the floor with them......hehehehhehee:lol:

Jon, on a more serious note, what ever you chose, stay away from the cars that are smothered in underseal and search for a car that has some sort of history attached....the better the car, the more you will pay......like everything in this world!

I was staring straight ahead at the looming traffic and roundabout......................didn't see the carpet.

I can carry everything for two people including a fridge in my 240 (that's what's great about them - the carrying capacity) and I don't see the point of carrying everything for two people and then adding a third - you'd have to wear a blow-up dolly rack like Robs'..........

I know about restoring costs on a 2+2 Paul - I'm in the middle of one.....and it'll do yours, well certainly at the moment and the head comes from the same source !

Next time I need a fridge delivering I'll give you a call.

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome to Z-Land.
It'll be time to start a patient search in a month or 2 when I've room in the garage.

240 carrying capasity! .On a long weekend away, my wife and I took -- dog in crate,suitcase,pillows,blankets,food,and a host of other assorted stuff that women take.
I personaly would go for a 240 IF you can find one.Same price to restore ,greater end value,and
such a buzz to drive .If your kids are coming up to teens ,I would go for a 240,as they are not going to want to be seen dead with mum and dad anyway.Trust me Ive raised three and also seen the way teen grandchildren behave towards their parents.

You assume it is and you again assume i'm using the same head......... ya know what they say;

To assume makes an "Ass out of U and ME" But thats off topic and for a different thread no doubt.

Just like to say wellcome to the site, ill repeat what others have said that the 240z is the one to go for, because bulk of them are tax exempt, pre 72 and with car tax bands altering who knows where a late 240-260z will end up price wise per year, remember at the end of the day most people on this site only use there cars maybe 1-2 times a week and car tax is an extra cost, unless you only run the car for the summer and declare SORN over winter to save some money, you were mentioning weights of 240-260 the early 1969-70series 1 240z is around i think100kg lighter than a 71-73 240z not sure of the exact amount, but there is a difference, so much so that my 1970 240z with a chevy 5.4 v8 and r200 dif and twin electric fans only weighs around 1100 kg ill have to get it re-weighed so i know for sure but that wont be far off, i would definately get a z they are so rare, ive lost count of the people who say what car is that or that looks fast or ive not seen one of those for years, i dont think people would say that if you were driving a mg or morris minor, as you said there are hardly any 2 seaters but more 2+2 for sale that alone should tell you which ones are more sought after, if you are ever up sheffield way mail me to go out for a spin or just to look, any how good look with the project regards heath 240zchevyv8

try and have a look at as many as possible before you buy then you will a better idea of whats good and whats not.

Hi... Welcome to the mad house... Dont do a left hooker.. get a good Right hand drive.. I have been restoring a couple and I can get any part you need. With Mr F on board you can get everything. EVEN. the full rear suspension arms.. I have bought a couple from the states of california cars.. had them blasted and powder coated and they are like new... on a seroius note there is a 240Z that has just popped up on ebay. Its in bradford. If you want as I am in leeds I can go and give it a poke for you.
I would look now instead of a few months time as these cars are like hens teeth.

I have as I say a couple I am restoring as long as you can weld you can make up the sections you need. I dont think its vaslty important that the bits you dont see are beautiful. do the best you can as long as it is strong then theres not much problem. Keep is neat. dont bodge thats the important thing. One of the cars i have the blue on was bodged in places and its take hours and hours to undo the bodges and do it right. I am in love with the lines of the Z. the spirit of them is what drives me along..

gotta go good luck.

that made me laugh !!!! ha ha ......in an Alan Partridge stylee

Spending 10k on a UK rot box is also expensive.

That's why we import clean shells from the States............................:rolleyes: and to ensure that the "10k" stays clean ! Anyone know the game of welding every two years to pass the MOT ?

ive had a right hand drive 240z made a lovely patch work quilt, ive now got a imported left hand drive made a lovely piece of silk, no comparison, yes the right hand drive can be made nice ive done it, but to be honest you will always think i wish it was genuine (i did) now i have one that is considerably more original, but the steering wheel is on the opposite side, but the way this bloody country is going we will soon be driving on the oposite side of the road then us left hookers will have the last laugh.

Lets put it this way.. 240Z's rust in pre determined areas. We all know where they are. If you repair these areas and treat them with the correct materials they will NOT rust through again for decades. Its all about care. Look after them and they will be fine. Remember these UK cars have history they have run on the UK roads for some 30+ years.. many have dropped little bits of theirselves all over the UK, Its a bit like they are marking their territory with bits of rust and patches of oil. Thats History for you. Look after them.
These cars were not always the revered classics they are today, they were bought used and abused. It is that abuse from the dreaded previous owners that has led to the demise of dozens of Z's, however some hardy survivors forge onwards with artificial bits and bobs, welded patches here and there. So what! They are like old soldiers back from the wars, he may have an artificial leg. But by God he's still a soddin hero! In my book still a soldier, still a man!
That goes for the Z as well many have bits added and in some cases subtracted but its still a Z... It still deserves to be preserved and run, cherished and cared for. If we all decided to go for LHD cars then the original UK Z's would be either swallowed up for their parts or scrapped altogether. I am a UK restorer. I want a UK car complete with all its faults rust warts whatever.

Its still a Z.. always will be, never change. wears the badge.. like a fookin medal. God Bless em!:rant:

to be honest to get a lhd zed shell that is totally rust free is rare as i think there are 4 points on the car that you should open up and check, i have done this on mine even though they look good on the outside and i have found some rust that required welding.the main thing for me with a lhd shell is you get a better shell that has not been welded before ,i would prefer a car that needs welding to a car that has already been welded as sometimes it is hard to tell the quallity of the welding that was done before.

i enjoy welding but it is very time consuming,mainly chopping and cleaning the area for welding which takes the most time.but you are right Zed the Red if it is done right it will last for aslong as the car does
