Retro Show

Thanks for the info guys
Just a quick update, today was a very enjoyable day with at least 3 maybe 4 personal bests
Well done Tel and Nidge
And particularly Johnny Palmer who stayed until the end to get a new personal best of 12.25 @ 115 mph....well done Johnny

I will post results up in a little while

Oh nearly forgot the class 1 (normally aspirated L6) bar just got raised again 12.45 @ 111.9 mph
Would have won the event except a non road legal escort with a v8 in it ran a 12.1

Had a great day, thanks Steve for all your hard work. Great to see the variation of Z's on the stand. Loved the rat looking S30 with arches and hope to see it run some time. A superb selection of S30's and a cool Z32.

My runs started badly with Steve walking all over me on our first head to head, can't believe how quick he gets off the line. Came away with 6 12.7's and a 12.6. Struggled getting off the line all day with high temps and a red hot engine bay. Not a good day for turbo's. Finally managed a 12.272 @ 115mph. Improvement on my previous PB of 12.38 but not good enough to beet Darens PB of 12.25. I'll be trying harder next time! My terminal is down by 3mph and I'm still looking at a better 60ft(best today was 2.08s). But, with the condition today I'm happy with the 12.2 as I know there's more to come and believe my goal for getting into the 11's is possible.........hopefully..........without spending any more money.

Forgot to add. 0.2 reactions most of the day but managed a 0.16s which I'm really happy with. Counted up my slips and managed to get 9 runs in today with some big gaps to let the engine cool down so a very good day to get some practice.

Filled up with fuel when I got home and and used 36lt's. Not bad for over a 200mile round trip and 9 runs. The joys of modern engines.

Was a good day in all.

Two runs done, couldn't really better the first, having probs putting the power down off the line. (Might need to invest in some new tyres.)

14.24 1/4ET @105.18mph. managed 1/4mph of 105.8 on second run bit took 3 tenths longer to get there.

Gonna play with the tyre pressures next time see if it helps, and need better weather and air pressure, not the best conditions for a TT today.

Nice to meet up with the guys again.

I went past that Escort like it was standing still...

It was, it broke after 100yds.

Harvey (Viper GTS jnr) with class 1 car did not run

UpsideFor those that didnt come, you missed a really good day, the attention that the cars got was very positive. The weather was pretty fair with cloud coming in in the afternoon (followed by huge numbers of thunder bugs etc) but it stayed dry, picking up at around 15:30 onwards and people had plenty of chance to get a good number of runs in (I think JP had 9)
Despite the less than ideal weather conditions (air pressure low, humidity high) the track conditions were good and credible times were ran.

Trend
Sadly like most shows, the general numbers seem to be down on previous years, with the trade stands almost non existant.
I guess that people just dont have the disposable income to keep a high performance car going.....

Down side
Orange F*rd escort owners can't read the class rules and marshals don't give a flying fu*k

Impressive results given the less than favourable weather conditions.

John - gettign 9 runs in is pretty good going, more people showing off their cars then running them then? Once you get that 60ft down and better weather conditions, 11 seconds here you come.

Rob - 0.034 reaction time? How do you do it?

Shame you never got the NA record for the day Steve, at least it's a personal best and a huge achievement for an NA car.

George
Did you mean the retro show competition (class B)
If so yep thats really annoyed me, whats the point of rules if they are not policed
I have lodged an official complaint, but I won't be surprised if nothing is done about it, competitions like that are just a mechanism to get people through the gate, who wins is irrelevant (to them)

Heres an indication of how switched on the Santa Pod fire up lane marshals are, they gave a 2006 Jeep and a 1998 Audi a retro race number FFS, Bunch of muppets.

That's what I meant. Hope your letter doesn't fall on deaf ears, worth a try and if you don't complain then no one know there's an issue.

Well sadly I got a response which I will quote

Hi Steve,
Thank You for your email.
We have had a look into your points about the vehicle in question and breaching the rules. When you flagged it up to a marshall I am positive that they will have had a look at the car and disqualified it if necessary.
The RWYB classes (apart from Class X) are all for Streetable cars, this means cars that they could easily obtain an MOT if they don’t have one already. From what you have said we are happy that this car could quite easily gain an MOT. The only reason these rules are in place is to ensure that no extreme performance enhancements such as slicks, open headers and wheelie bars etc. are on any of the vehicles competing. From what I understand none of the points raised that would result in an MOT failure would have enhanced the performance of the car. If you feel that this is not the case then please do let me know and we will look into it further.
Admittedly the wording in the rules is not ideal and this will be clarified for any future events, I can only apologise for the misunderstanding.

They feel that the car "could easily have gotten an MOT with
No bonnet
No front number plate
No windscreen wipers
No brake lights
Badly cracked windscreen

They don't feel that the removal of the bonnet was a performance enhancer despite the fact that the guy was running a TVR V8 with vertical ram pipes that would have been choked reducing the power if the bonnet was in place.

Whats the point in trying to find the quickest streetable cars when all you have to do is cheat:confused:

Steve Kiddell class 1
12.4532 @ 111.94 mph RT 0.2683 Personal best

Now 10th place in the Hall of Fame, but more significant than beating his own record yet again; Steve is also the fastest L6 powered S30 regardless !

Capture1.jpg

John Palmer class 7
12.2720 @ 115.62 mph RT 0.1685 Personal best (getting mightly close to Darren)

Jumps 1 place in the Top 10's

Neil Marston class 5
14.24 @ 105.79 mph RT 0.4463 Personal best (I think)

A new entry in the Hall of Fame

Terry Taylor class 1
13.8386 @ 100.31 mph RT 0.6955 Personal best and welcome to the 13 second club

A huge jump from 51st to 39th place in the Hall of Fame but now makes it into 6th place in the Top 10's kicking out James Taylor (no relation)

Well done all :thumbs::thumbs:

Steve mate feel your pain on this
But as you say the organisers only car about pulling people through the door
And in their eyes a Ford Escort will appeal to the general British public coming through the door more than a Datsun so rules will be eased in a certain direction happened in the HSCC a few years back so nothing changes

By making a total mess of the start and doing my slowest ET of the day. My reaction time on my fastest ET was 0.2605 which was my second fastest reaction. Range was .3s .4s .5s .6s .7s and one was 1.5 so the trick to get a good reaction is lots of runs and a bit of look.

I'm not giving up yet
I am just quoting thier own rules at them for instance, on the retro site it states

Road legal cars must run on UK road-legal tyres with full electrics. One headlight may be removed for air induction. All cars on slicks, and all cars with questionable road-legality will go into class X.

Since when did "one headlight" mean a friggin bonnet

I wonder what the fine is for creating and staging a public competition and failing to correctly apply the rules to the point of discrimination

I think it's important stating the obvious to them Steve, keep going. You're in the right here.

If anything, hopefully it will tighten the rules for next time even if it doesn nothing now. Sometimes if you don't shout nothing will change.
